Heart of gold! Brave autistic boy, 11, who refuses to go to the hairdresser will cut off his blonde locks to help young cancer victims losing their hair

Quote:
An 11-year-old boy with autism has vowed to donate his blonde locks to help young cancer sufferers losing their hair.
For many years, D'Arcy Owen, from Victoria's Sunsbury, refused to go to the hairdressers as he grew out his luscious hair.
But now, the young boy has decided to chop it all off for two good causes.
And if little D'Arcy hits his $2,500 target, he will donate his hair to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre 'to help the sick kids who have lost their hair'.

All proceeds will go towards the specialist Jacana School for Autism after his parents Michelle and Nic Owen set up a GoFundMe page.

Very noble thing to do! I love my long hair, but if it grows too long I will probably donate.

I did this when I retired in my early '60s. I'd been having a discussion with another employee (who recently started to grow his hair longer) and this mixed in with something I'd read or heard about little kids with cancer. This prompted a thought so I decided to donate my hair. But first I had to grow some. This was around 2005.

So I grew my hair for about 2 years and called Locks of Love to get some details, but found no adult hair is processed there for little children with cancer, and that only school children were asked to donate to these children, but I could donate it for other purposes.

Then I found Wigs for Kids who do accept and use "anyone's" hair for this purpose, so this is where I sent my locks. And I did this twice more. And my hair continued to thin, thin, thin. So now I just let it grow anyway it wants :D .

Anyone can and should do this if possible. For me I now had no employer, so that part was easy. I also learned some things about being a long haired person in today's society.

Love you all.

It's easy to be a sweet pea when you imagine the happiness on the kids faces. :D
