Hello,

As you can probably tell by the subject, I'm an adult (38 years old) and I'm fairly certain that I have AS. I live in Houston, Texas and am hoping that someone might know of a good therapist/psychiatrist/whatever who is familiar with AS. I'm able to function well enough at my job (computer programmer), but the loneliness from my anxiety in social situations is really starting to get to be too much. I would probably be most interested in a psychiatrist, since I am open to medication to help (I know it won't cure anything, but masking the symptoms would be a big improvement in my life).

Thanks

Hi there. I'm a therapist, but I practice in the Pittsburgh PA area. Looking for a therapist or psychiatrist, psychologist etc.) can be difficult. In truth you will probably want to find a psychiatrist for med management, and a psychologist or pther therapist for talk therapy The first step that I would recomend is for you to call the number on the back of your insurance card that says "mental health/chemical dependancy" or something similar. They will be able to give you a list of therapists that are covered. I would then recomend that you make some phone calls and talk to some therapists. Ask them questions about their experiance, you'll probably be able to tell fairly quickly which ones you feel most comfortable talking with. Finding the right therapist for you is a process, and if you aren't comforatble with one, don't hesitate to seek another. Not every therapist works well with every client.

Hope this helps...and good luck
