hello everyone-
I was wondering lately if my messy apartment was a sign of .... numbness to the disorder.
I realized that, when basically I'm noticing some plastic packaging lying around it doesn't really register with me as garbage, I get somewhat fascinated by the way the material reflects light and so on.
I work in visual arts/ design, so this way of engaging with the world definitely is great for my job and certainly an interest of mine, bit I was wondering, since basically I get sidetracked by visual details easily, if the overall chaos in my apartment is due to ... sensory overload. I feel like I don't register the whole, as what is is, but when I do take notice, it's details.
It's similar when I go out- I sort of fail to even notice my surroundings, and then masses of people and traffic and so on don't really bother me- but if I decide to pay attention, usually some architectural details appear more important/interesting than the oncoming cars...

Poor organization skills are a sign of executive dysfunction, a common co-morbid for people on the spectrum.

Also, we tend to hyperfocus causing us to miss what others wouldn't.
