What kind of medical treatment have you had for sleep disorders or chronic insomnia?

I wear a CPAP mask at night because I was recently diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea. It helps. I don't get up in the middle of the night and now can sleep 10-12 hours without waking up. I take Melatonin along with my other medications right before bed and it works well for me.

No, I don't think so, cannot remember any side effects (or course I don't go out after taking it :D not a good party drug I guess and you shouldn't drive vehicles and so on..)

But it doesn't work when I'm really nervous about something, it's just when I'm not tired. But I also found it helpful just to do progressive muscle relaxation, makes me really tired after like 10 minutes.

Melatonin is a just supplement that helps induce and maintain sleep.i usually take 3mg 30 mins before bed. It might have a placebo effect for me too.

Yes and No. I have been to the doctors many times over sleep difficulties and anxiety and got no where , this was well before the penny dropped and I went off and got a diagnosis. I have self medicated in the past I am afraid to say...I would do anything to sleep after the 3rd day. The only thing which I have found to work for me is to listen to the radio. BBC Radio 4 or the World Service are both speech only. I listen with my iPhone and a single ear phone and have the volume turn down so low that I can just hear what is being said if I concentrate. There is just enough sound and human contact for my attention to focus on the radio, not in the nonsense churning around endlessly in my head.

On a side note I recently met the bloke who build the wonderful BBC radio app, actually most of the BBC apps. Nice guy called Jamie. He had been carrying round a massive stuffed toy Lion with him for years. Jamie is autistic and has particular hatred of ABA...top bloke 8)

I was given 5mg Mirtazapine Orally Disintegrating Tablets ( normal tablets were not as effective ) for sleep disorder caused by anxiety , it used to knock me on my backside and I slept well but they made me groggy & foggy next day.

I take like a half dozen meds to sleep at night. I have tried dozens of prescription meds and herbal treatments as well as sleep hygiene routines to manage my chronic problems with sleep. I was even once offered a prescription for pharmaceutical grade GHB (Xyrem) by a sleep specialist years ago but couldn't afford it's nearly $11,000/month insane cost lol.

I always thought GHB was a street drug ( liquid ecstasy ) , I never even thought it a had a medical use.
