I'm basically looking to find out about how I go about getting diagnosed with Aspergers and Bi-Polar in the UK through the private health sector, if anyone can help me, I'd much appreciate it :)

What part of the UK are you in? I live in Manchester and was diagnosed in Sheffield.

When I mwas looking to get a diagnosis, my mum rang the National Autistic Society and asked what they thought. They gave her the name of the closest place and then we went to see my GP to explain and ask for a referal. So you could try doing something like that. I think the best thing is definitely to see your GP, but also you can try and find the closest place to get a diagnosis before you go as well.

they used to charge, but i think you can make an appointment for free nowadays in Cambridge.
You need to take a parent with you

I went to the CLASS clinic in Cambridge and consultations are free there now. You will require a referral from a GP. If you wish to go down the private route go to either a psychologist or specifically a psychologist/psychiatrist who specialises in autistic spectrum disorders. Ask your GP for advice or find out if there is an autism/asperger support group near you who could give you a list of relevant professionals in your region. Do a search on the internet for psychologist/neuropsychologists in your area give them a call and see if they would see you, if not ask if they could recommend anyone suitable.

Most places still require a referral from your GP.

This is the NAS page on getting a diagnosis: http://www.nas.org.uk/nas/jsp/polopoly. ... 045&a=3341
This is a link to the Autism Search Engine type thing they have: http://www.autismdirectory.org.uk/Pages ... ar=1&rs=-1

Here's some places that do adult diagnoses:

Elliot House:

Digby Tantam:
http://www.dilemmas.org/asperger.htm

CLASS:

(Free at the moment but you need a parent to accompany you)

Thanks for that.
If worst comes to worst, at least there is one option suitable for me.
Tho £300 is damn expensive.

I know, but it's better than not having an option at all I suppose.

There's also a psychiatrist in Birmingham who sees adults with AS but I do not know if he does diagnoses. If anyone wants his consultant profile with Email link, just send me a message.

I know that some places (though not all) will accept anyone who has known you since birth - so it can be an aunt or uncle or godparent or family friend etc.

Also, CLASS told me that as my parents were unwilling to come, they could send a questionnaire for me to give to them and then bring, completed, to the diagnosis with me. But this was several months ago - they may have changed the procedure.

It's frustrating because what are you supposed to do if your parents abused you exactly??? Some people just don't think of these things - the assumption seems to be that all parents are great and loving and wonderful - and some are, but also some aren't.

I'm waiting to see a specialist here though, so have temporarily put going to Cambridge on hold.

I think that may well still be the case - only if it's not a matter of not wanting to come in person (but being dead, or not wanting you diagnosed etc.) then obviously it's still a problem.
