I have Trypophobia, and it seems to be more common than most people think, yet most of us with it keep it hidden for fear of being the only one with it or the apparent irrationality of it. I am curious as to who here has it, which may shed some light on a possible correlation (although I have no reason as of yet to suspect one).

I hadn't heard this term before, and I just now looked it up. Sometimes I do get irrationally disturbed by asymmetrical shapes, because they make me think of tumors, lesions, and such. I have severe OCD and hypochondria along with Asperger's, so for me I think it's part of that.

While I'm not exactly 'scared' of it or anything such, asymmetry does bother me quite a lot. :?

no fear of it or anything, although if its something that can be rearranged to be symmetrical I will rearrange it.

I've never heard of it.

For all the assymetry haters present in here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krzywy_Domek  Yuck! It reminds me of those non-Euclidan shapes Lovecraft wrote about

Trypophobia is caused by your subconscious comparing the surface spotted with holes to your own flesh which could be like that - and if it was, it would mean, it would be stricken with an illness causing your body to rot and open like ripe fruit  Human body looking like this would inevitably be sick, spotted with festers, not healing small wounds and the thought about this scares you. This is my theory.

Yes I agree.

I have it, but I don't mind asymmetrical shapes. I like asymmetrical hairstyles and clothes...but those f*****g holes...>.<

It's interesting that you mentioned your disease theory, because my one and only technique for overcoming that fear for ages was to look at the shapes and remind myself that they were functional parts, not aberrations. I used to have dreams of myself where I had multiple eyes and circular eardrums like that. Freaked me right out, but sitting a while and explaining to myself over and over 'they're sensory organs, there's nothing wrong with them..' reduced the fear and revulsion.

Basically if I see something as a functional part, it doesn't bother me...

I freaking love that building! And Lovecraft! I mean... that building is obviously weird on purpose, and Lovecraft's work is intentional horror, haha. It's things like what jmnixon95 posted that creep me out. Seeing bulbous, clustery things like that makes me feel like they're growing on my skin, or like they're inside my body... ugh.

I don't have it. I never even heard the term until today.

That said, am I the only one who finds that fruit or whatever that jmnixon95 posted -- I refuse to re-post it -- incredibly disturbing.

They're lotus seed pods, and most people find them disturbing. If you are disturbed by them, you most likely have trypophobia to some degree. I find them very interesting in appearance, personally; but 'interesting' in the sense of, say, not being able to look away from a car crash.

I don't think its trypophobia. I think it is because it makes me feel like there are dozen pair of eyes staring at me, watching me.

I don't know what it is, I googled it and all I got was "urban dictionary", which I don't trust.
