Hi everyone. I was diagnosed with Asperger's when I was a kid (in the mid-90s). I'm now 31 (male). While I'm not currently in a serious relationship, I've thought a lot about having kids someday, so I'm paranoid that I might have something serious that could be passed down (like a Fragile X pre-mutation or something along that line). Do adults who have been diagnosed with Asperger's ever get tested to make sure they are genetically healthy? Particularly if they were diagnosed before genetic testing to rule out other conditions was commonplace? Part of the reason for my worries is that I'm not exactly a "textbook case" of Asperger's, so I often wonder if I was mis-diagnosed and that there could be another underlying issue. How would I approach the situation with my doctor? I feel like this is very preemptive, but I also feel like I'm going to obsess about it if I don't find out. I've also considered that hypochondria might be my bigger issue here. I had a genetic cancer screening recently (that was doctor referred and not hypochondria driven) and my results for that were thankfully negative. That experience got me thinking (uh-oh...) and googling, which led me to this forum...
Also if this topic is not forum appropriate, please let me know. I feel like it could be a Pandora's box for some people, so I was debating whether to post it...
