Hi:
I had recently attempted to get a psychological evaluation even though I don't have a big pile of money and the evaluations are very expensive and I had tried to go through a nonprofit to get a scholarship in order to get these services. The nonprofit agreed to help only when the money became available but only appeared to make one payment which was the intake. After that, they dropped the ball while having a lack of communication with both the psychologist and me about how the and when the money was going to be processed. It turns out that this organization didn't have the funds to cover everything at once. Thus, I had been stuck with a big $2000+ bill from the work that had been done last year. Though those funds are now being covered, the psychologist wants another sum of money to pay for the preparation of the report.

How many of you have gone through this and what did you do in order to get these fees paid?

Its mad you have to pay for it, I just can't get my head around having to spend thousands
on the evaluation. At my one though, they just asked exactly the same questions as the self test questionaire thing. I dont think the ones in England are as in depth. It only lasted two hours.

It's not my favorite approach but it gets the job done usually: do you know someone forceful with a loud voice who gets all emotional when they don't get their way? seems like those people never get taken advantage of in this way. That is a lot of money!

It sounds like a shakedown scam really, but I suppose a private healthcare system is different to a socialised one. In the socialised one its similar in a way; if you struggle to assert yourself, they will consistently dissuade you from accessing services you may need.

I attempted to assert myself with the nonprofit people who were beating around the bush rather than getting back to me el pronto. They rattled off a list of BS at me like
1. Since 2008 nonprofits have been struggling to make ends me
2. They have other clients to reach out to as well
3. They do the best that they can
4. They accused me of trying to get my way
5. They and all of the board members have other full-time jobs and are often exhausted each day and often have no time for the nonprofit.

I had to drop them because I just could not work with people like that.

Anyway, they are trying to nickel and dime me out of paying for the preparation of the report.

It sounds quite familiar, I suppose in a way the NHS is a nonprofit too. Maybe there's like a way to do it through the internet? Or do they have to actually observe you? In my assesment review, there are observations on body language, speech etc so maybe they do need to.

Is it really important for you to have the formal diagnosis then? It didn't really have as big an effect I was hoping, it was more a validation.

I did this as an update because my last eval and diagnosis was outdated and the accommodations office at school needs proper documentation. However, the people at the clinic want another $325.00 just to prepare the report.

I think it depends on where you get it, how complicated your case is, etc. My assessment in England was 4 hours longs and they booked two therapists for it, but decided to use only one - although the second double marked the video recording of my ADOS. I then had another hour and half on a different day through going through my report. I also had an hour before I was referred to the testing centre and a bunch of paperwork sent to me.

For ADHD, I had two hour assessments and then a four hour psychometrics assessment.

Yeah, thats kind of similar to the format I had. One was a female doctor, but she didn't ask any questions, I think she was just observing. The hardest bit for me was reading the report, a very clinical report that I found cutting. I don't know why, but even now I'm ashamed of the things it says. Havnt even showed it to my parents.
