Preamble
I see a lot of people on this forum struggling with "is it all in my head" when they first start exploring the possibility they might have Asperger's...even post diagnosis in some cases. I struggle with this. When I was first told by someone they thought I might be on the spectrum and I started researching it to death as a consequence, it was like suddenly like my life made sense. But I wasn't sure. So I decided to get an evaluation. Two in fact. I started with a clinical psychologist. The clinical psychologist came back with a diagnosis of high function autism. I'm generally mistrustful of them and I was concerned I might have tricked her somehow so I made an appointment with a neuropsychologist too. That seemed a lot more based in science. I just got done with the last three hours of testing. I was a bit of a mess when I first left and I forgot to ask about the one part of the test that I had fun with. I said as much and got a funny look along with the comment "most people hate this test". The others, like working memory, not so much fun. I accidentally snapped a pencil in frustration. I wonder what he thought of that?

Chapter 1
Anyone know the name of the test where they show you patterns and ask you to say what number it reminds you of? The first "subsection" was just Roman numerals. It was offensively easy. The others got progressively more interesting. There were a variety of patterns to shapes, colors, position, and presence or absence of something that indicated a number (1-4). What was he testing?

I think they might have been testing your ability to find patterns in everyday life. That's just my guess. I hate clinical psychologists too- had a bad experience with all except one :D .

Hmm I've had a neuropsych eval multiple times and I've never had one like that, sounds fun though!

Found it. It's called the Halstead Reitan. Wow, I took almost every test on this page. It's a test for brain damage, apparently. Jeez, now I'm a little worried

And of course I'm off on a research binge right now about lateralized brain dysfunction in autism. I came across this. I found it to be an extremely interesting read.
