When my sister was younger, she used to rip the labels off crayons. I know all kids do that, but she did this for hours on end. I was just curious if you guys think it could be a form of stimming :D .

By the way, this is interesting since she has such a short attention span.

There something very satisfying about ripping the labels off crayola crayons , I haven't don't it it since I was a child but I remember the feeling well - the silky smooth crayon underneath , the ripping noise and trying to do in one go

Ah yes- trying to do it in one go is so satisfying :D . The worst is when you only get a little bit of the label off and you get wax underneath your fingers while trying to take the rest of it off  .

That's when you can pretend you have magic fingers and draw with your nails.

Did I just actually admit that

A repetitive motion that feels soothing. I rock sometimes. I used to flap my left hand in front of my eyes when I was little. I saw a picture of a woman lying on a bed in a magazine ad with her descending legs that was taken in graduations and I wanted to see if I could make my hand do that.

It can be a stim. I've seen an autistic kid doing it one time. I thought the question read "What is a stim?"

That's ok :D . I misread threads all the time. My sister hand flaps and sometimes rocks as well.

literally ANYTHING can be a stim, if it stimulates you its a stim. this can include listening to music. watching movies ECT

The difference if autistic people depend on stims to cope through over-stimulation and stress. So a normal person can get a relaxing feeling from being in a rocking chair, they don't depend on it, to an autistic person rocking may be the only thing that stops their brain from overloading into a meltdown.

so in a way- yes the behaviour can be a stim, does it mean anything? probably not.

Thanks! :D I was just wondering since she has other traits too and autism runs in my family.

I used to rip the labels off everything.
My mother never knew what was inside the canned food because I'd delabel them all.

Also, peeling off stickers.
Still find it difficult not to tamper with a sticker.

Stimming is pretty much a repetitive body movement. The issue with crayon lables is eventually they run out, unless there's a steady supply of crayons. But close enough and autistic type behavior I have seen a lot of. Snapping crayons in half and quarters one afer the other is another common one. Along with rolling crayons with the palm on a desk or even better the face. Back and forth back and forth. Probably the best stim with crayons since it doesn't exhaust supplies haha.

I especially can't handle not peeling off those little "made in ________" stickers.

I get what you mean. I can't stand labels on things. Water bottles are the worst! :D
