im mikie im going share my autism story im 25 i have autism, adhd, sensory processing disorder , speech and learning issues , gi issues, gerd, acid reflex, scoliosis, i have asthma, allergies developmental delays, i been though alot in my life i couldn't walk till age 3, was potty trained at age 4, talked at age 5, rode a bike at age 6 , tied my shoes at age 11 im very high functioning and do my best at everything , i had many surgery's in my life was in a oxygen tent as a baby , i had tubes in my ear before, here is what it was like in school, i was in special ed till third grade , i rode on a special ed bus in preschool , from third grade till i graduated i was in general ed with a resource teacher if needed , it was ok i was bullied alot as a kid because of my speech issues, which made me cry as a kid , i was a very good student , i got good grades i never understood why people were mean, here are my fears, im scared of dentists im getting better i know there good people , im scared of deep water but im getting better at swimming, i was scared of the dark till like age 15 now im ok with the dark, some of the things i like are, fishing, boating, , swimming, bowling, reading i was very good reading as kid too i was a book nerd , i liked helping others in school, here is s more things i like i love hot wheels, i like riding bikes, i love bugs, reptiles, animals, horses ,i love water parks, i like old cars, lifted trucks ,here is my fav shows they are, paw patrol, scooby doo, sponge bob, i love many shows these are just a few , i love music, i like country, music , rock, pop , Disney music, i love movies, like frozen, starwars , inside out, scooby doo movies, air bud, i love Holiday , i love Christmas, Halloween 4th of july im not scared of fireworks but cover my ears if needed, i still believe in Santa, im a christian, i like legos, i like puzzles, i love video games , i like my bedroom its coool it is star wars and avengers it superheros because im a super hero, this is a little about my autism story i would love too here the story of you or your kids autism journey life is a puzzle for me but i never give up i will keep going i do best at everything im me im a super hero please comment thanks

Hi Mikie. I like your story about your autism. It reminds me a lot of my own story, although I’m 60 years old. I have autism, PTSD, and sensory processing disorder, I sometimes stutter and have tics really strongly. I also have GI issues like GERD, used to get abdominal migraines, started to develop ulcers at one point, have asthma and strong allergies such as to certain animal hair. I didn’t speak until I was 4 and had a lot of problems using my hands together to button my shirt, tie my shoes, and pull up zippers. Some of that was from autism and some from a head injury when I was small. I used to have to wear really thick heavy glasses until I got eye laser surgery when I was about 35. I was in a special program for kids with developmental issues from about age 3 to 4, but ended up in public school when I went to kindergarten, which was hard. I’m sorry you got bullied – I went through that a lot too and it affects you deep inside. I got physically hurt in school more than once and shunned and ridiculed because I looked and sounded different. I used to think people were mean because they’re stupid, but I’ve come to realize that a lot of the bullying was a result of poor supervision and that it came from kids who had parents who were mean to them. Some of it was from kids just trying to look tough or cool in front of other kids though. I used to be afraid of the dark when I was younger and I’m still afraid of deep water because I never learned to swim. I’m also scared to death of heights and cliffs – it’s as if my mind is floating out in the air outside of my body and I see all the way down even if I’m in a safe spot. I spent huge amounts of time reading as a kid and I still have a really big library of books – I guess I was a book nerd too. I like animals, especially cats – I’ve lived most of my life with cats, even though I’m allergic to quite a few of them, lol. I like a lot of different types of music like country, classical, and instrumentals that have complex rhythms and patterns. I enjoy Christmas and Halloween and the lights, decorations, and jack-o-lanterns (I love the smell of Christmas trees and jack-o-lanterns). I’m a Christian too, although I have a really hard time with church because it’s overwhelming for me, especially trying to socialize with strangers. Just like you I really like Legos, building things, and some puzzles. I also like figuring out certain math problems and I enjoy learning about physics. Never giving up and being a superhero sound like really good qualities. I may have autism myself, but I’ve never quit trying in my life, and I’ve had some friends who weren’t autistic who gave up. At each stage of life, there have been challenges and things have seemed difficult, but it’s always ended up being worth the effort. Wrong Planet is a good place to find people with similar experiences and I’m glad you found it.
