I have been here a little under a month and really love the site. I feel horrible about the "trolls."
I didn't know what you guys meant at first when you called someone a troll.
But i have seen enough in my time here to see they are sick and hurtful.
I do not think the members here should have to even be exposed to their post. I personally would prefer not to read their s**t.
Maybe the first person to see a post that is significantly marked with hatred and ridicule should post the subject as TROLL as*hole.
Then we would all know and if you want to see what the sicko has to say, then go for it.
But for a forum that is supposed to provide insight, support, encouragement, answers, etc. I do not see how even responding to the trolls or whatever they are is worthy.
My only wonder is how to be the judge of a troll person or a very confused upset individual.
But that is the only conclusion I can come up with as to avoiding them.
I feel bad for the angry ppl that are here, hating AS and hating themselves. But let them deal with it, why should so many be exposed?

well once you start judging people as trolls, it kind of sinks you down a level.
There are people i have judged harshly, then realized i have been wrong: im not the best judge of character. People have good days and bad days. I try not to judge or take things too seriously.
It's hard.
There are a lot of trolls about, and many would think i am one.

It's actually a term that's been used in cyberspace since about the beginning of online forums, back in the bad old days of dial-up, when the only connections were local. A "troll" is someone who cruises through the forums, trying to bait people into a fight so he (all the ones I've encountered have been male) can feel as if he "won" something. The term derives from the actions of a fisherman - who goes out on the lake in his boat, casts his baited hook into the water, and trolls for his prey...

I think that if people are expressing opinions it is generally accepted that some people are going to be overly sensitive on some issues and that some people are going to poorly word something or post without thinking. So friction is going to occur now and again. I think this happens everywhere. I do not go at all for people baiting people, people being offensive or people upsetting others.
At the same time I won't tell you that I am completely without social and communicative deficits so thiese same areas that I react to are the same areas I am weak in.
The answer of course is to self-manage your reactions and to genuinely seek out positive and useful interaction and try restraint when people push your buttons.
I am new here too and I like you enjoy this forum. I have made a few friends and I don't think any enemies.
I am opinionated and assertive but at the same time fairly laid-back and rational so I guess it balances out.
I hope not to come across trolls but don't fear them and hope equally that I never appear as a troll. :D
