That show, when Jerry opened hs mouth and began humming the opening theme song, well, I fell off of my chair. Now we all need to laugh, but believe me I LAUGHED MY ASS OFF!! ! Aspergers Disorder presents itself in many many different variations. It's called the Little Professor Syndrome. If you know of someone with a little child and that kid drones on and on about the planets, the solar system, or if he lines up every single thing in the house, if he is so knowledgeable about one particular topic, and especially if he does this EXCLUSIVELY to the exclusion of wanting to go out and play with friends. And if he has such severe temper tantrums and then when you give him what he wants and in two seconds flat, he is back to being the little professor, THAT CHILD HAS ASPERGERS. Aspergers is a very socially isolated disorder. The person can be brilliant, get 100's on all his tests, but have no clue how to make friends,and MORE IMPORTANTLY, the person with Aspergers will always put himself, his needs and EVERYTHING about him FIRST. Everything else is secondary. The asperger person usually has no empathy. They don't think like a NT person. NT stands for Neuro-typical. If you go on forums, specifically Asperger Family Forums on Delphi Forums, you'll learn things that will make your hair turn white. These are all little geniuses who never have to study for anything. They memorize everything in 5 minutes flat but they have absolutely no social skills and are all anxious, and they have panic attacks. This is so common you can't imagine. Now why isn't this all over the newspapers? Because what mom and dad in their right mind is going to tell the world "Oh my son has these rages, he destroys the house, we can't control him". No, Moms and Dads, keep this little secret to themselves and they hope that their kids will grow up and GROW OUT OF THIS BEHAVIOR. These children DO NOT BENEFIt from regular therapy. They need something called ABA which stands for Applied Bahavioral Analysis.

Look up Asperger Syndrome on the internet. You'll get an education, believe me. And if you have a relative or you know someone in the family who has a kid who never gets off the computer, who never socializes, who growls at you if you take away their nintendo or video games, well, start looking at a pattern here. The kid never comes out of the room. They live on the computer. And more specifically, they love virtual reality worlds on the internet. There is one specifically, called SECOND LIFE. The person joins the world, develops an avatar, and can buy and sell land, property, gamble, even have sex in this virtual world. They can rent apartments in this virtual world. There are literally millions of people right now, sitting home at their computer, and these people have no social lives whatsoever, but they live in this virtual world and THAT'S HOW THEY FUNCTION. Many of these people are on SSI and that's their ony income. Families are destroyed by this behavior. So check into this if you know any kid (no matter how old) and they never come out of their room (except to go to school) most don't work or can't handle authority and absoluty every single Asperger kid has been misdiagnosed with ADD or ADHD and Oppositional Defiance Disorder.

What a f***ing stupid as*hole.

He's got Aspergers Disorder. It's a form of high-functioning Austism. Try living with that all your life. It's no picnic believe me. I know because my son has it.

While my son has none of his quirks, the hopping, the noise making with his mouth, my son is a compulsive gambler and left home 5 years ago. We rarely hear from him. YOu see Aspergers Disorder presents in various ways. Most of them are anxiety angst ridden people who can't hold down a job, get divorced, can't handle reality, can't cope with any stress, and they have nervous breakdowns. Rarely do they become attorneys or productive members of society because after they graduate college, THEY CAN'T FACE THE REAL WORLD. They can't leave home. My son was the exception. He just got on a plane and left home at age 20. We had no idea he had aspergers, we never heard of it. My son went to psych ward after psych ward. Some docs thought he was bi-polar, narcissistic personality disorder, this disorder and that disorder. They are often given mood stabilizers and anti-anxiety meds simply because any kind of stress sets them off. When HANDS is putting his hands on his thighs, that's called stimming. In autistics (and aspergers is a form of autism), the real autistics flap their hands. Many retreat into their own world. The aspies, as they are called, are often brilliant loners, who want to be by themselves. They don't know how to socialize and they are extremely uncomfortable around people.
The character of HANDS shows you that with professional help, they can have careers, make friends. It's extremely hard for them.

I would welcome and would hope that they bring HANDS' parents in for an episode. Then they can delve into how Aspergers impacts families.

It almost destroyed my family. I would only wish my son could have had a career like HANDS. My son is on SSI and does nothing all day but go on the computer and go into virtual reality worlds.
Just wanted to share some info on aspergers. I bet most of you never heard of Aspergers before HANDS came on!! !!
