I was just wondering if being sentimental is something that comes with having AS? I know alot of people are but I am very much so. Hell I always look fondly back in the past and can remeber things from when I was even 2 years old like it was yesterday. Is this common is AS or is it just me. Just curious.

I think it is common. Both of my sons are very sentimental. I think it's an extremely appealing characteristic. But, then again, I am their mother . . .

I guess you are right. I just find it strange that I can still remeber things from when I was even 2. Like when I was 2 I had to get circumsized because I got an infection from failuer to get it at birth and it was very very painful and I am 22 now and I can still remeber it clear as day. Along with my grandfather who has been dead since I was 3. But maybe I just have a good memory.

I am more sentimental than average. I don't show it but I am.

I'm probably more sentimental than the average person.

I'm not really at all. I'm just a packrat when it comes to things my kids made for me-I always want to save the things FOREVER, then I do a cleaning spree and half of it has to go because it's just lines on paper or scribbles, lol-if I kept it all it would fill my entire room.

I've lost almost everything that ever had any value sentimentally to me though-when I moved out of a friend's house (after a blow up of them just being mean to me all around), they threw away everything... and I mean EVERYTHING within 24 hours... my clarinet, my graduation cap, my diploma, my trumpet, my art supplies, my pictures of friends, and it goes on and on.

I'm pretty sure I'm still sentimental, just not as much as I used to be since that happened.

Sentimental, Nostalgic, or just have a damn good memory?

My brother-in-law has AS... he is sentimental when it comes to items and attaches a personal value to items -- as if they are a part of the person who gave said item to him -- aside from thathe has the memory of an elephant

He also "never forgets" negative things -- and I wouldn't call that either sentimental or nostalgic... that's either a great memory -- or if anger is still held with them... holding a grudge.

Seems to me -- whatever category it fits into -- people with AS do have excellent memories. 8)

I always wonder about that too. How much do you save? I'm really bad at organizing it, so I have a couple of plastic tubs that I throw my favorite papers, artwork, Mother's Day cards, etc. into. I always feel guilty about throwing away things they've made, but with three kids you have to be selective, especially since I'm not much of a pack-rat. The only thing I almost always save are letters. I have notes from junior high school (called middle school now) and high school that my friends passed to me in the hall and letters from relatives/friends/old boyfriends. The few letters that I did throw away I later wished I still had.
