Just wondering if anyone else with A.S has any experience using Oxytocin.

I've been using it for 5 or so months with good results; looking to share experiences and maybe hash out a protocol.

If anyone interested in trying it has any questions feel free to ask, I'd love to expand upon the what little knowledge there is on the subject.

thanks!

I've never tried it, but I'm interested in it. All I know about where to get it were some websites where it was sold as "Clarysage Essential Oil," but was turned off by the advertising that surrounded it, it's a women's health supplement.

What were your doses and effects?

My guess is that you are using oxytocin to increase your ability to form bonds and trust with other people. I would like to warn against using powerful hormones to alter behavior, but I use melatonin once in a while. I don't see any reason why oxytocin should be any less safe for clinical use.

Are you taking it intra-nasally or by injection? And how many units per day?

I had it prescribed for CFS/fibro years ago, but didn't notice much effect. It was 2-4 units/day, by subcutaneous injection. (Burned a bit, though I later heard that some doctors Rx lidocaine to mix with it to cut down on that.)

I'm given the impression that, nowadays, to get through the blood-brain barrier, the thinking is that it takes 10-20 units per day. Not sure of that, though.

Nope, sorry.

Behaviour modification as a child has left me too compliant as it is.
No ways I am adding anything into my system that will make me artificially trusting too.

But if it works for you, don't let me stop you...

I've tried both lozenges and and subcutaneous injection from overseas pharmacies; Normal dose is between 15-30 IUs in the process of calling the compounding pharmacy to figure exactly how much 'Tocin per dose major set back being the pharmacy is french a language I do not speak.

The effects...
Postive
Warmth: Simular to opiates yet less pronounced.
Absence of anxiety: Things that normally worry me had little or no effect on me.
Increased interest in people: Faces have a glow to them everyone seems unique and interesting!
Communication:Genuinely open and actively social I didn't sit back and wait for people too approach me I approached them; Speaking my mind came more naturally.

I'll try to post more effects and go into detail on the effects later; way to tired atm.

It doesn't make you incredibly trusting; Just more receptive to other peoples emotions which can and will lead to trust.

Hi Slowfall,
I'm very interested in getting a prescription for oxytocin, but I'm not sure where to start. Did you get your prescription from a general practitioner or a specialist? How did you go about asking for it? I'm afraid to ask my doctor because I feel like he won't be up on the research and he'll think I'm crazy or something. It's really exciting to hear that it's helped you though. Any advice anyone has about how to get a prescription would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you'll get a reply. OP has only 4 posts and this thread was from 2010. I don't think they're an active user any more.

This actually sounds more like your social anxiety was relieved, than like it had any effect on autistic traits. I have autism without social anxiety, and this is how I normally interact. It's clumsy and I often mess up on communication, but I am not anxious, I am interested in people and care about them deeply, and I don't have a problem with speaking my mind or with approaching people. I have never taken oxytocin, but I have studied it.

Negative
Increased trust: People on oxytocin tend to believe others are telling the truth and will not trick them. This makes them easy prey for con artists and shysters. It also makes them more vulnerable to abuse, bullying, and manipulation.
Increased out-group prejudice: As well as increasing connections between in-group members, oxytocin makes people more likely to dislike and distrust unfamiliar people and strangers. This increases cliquishness and prejudice. People on oxytocin will punish outgroup members much more severely.
Miscarriage and premature birth; lactation. Oxytocin stimulates uterine contractions in prengnant women and milk production in women who have given birth. Oxytocin (the drug is called Pitocin) is used to induce labor. This makes it unsafe to use during pregnancy. It may also worsen menstrual cramps.
Addiction: Oxytocin is addictive. It is not as physically harmful as, say, heroin (after all, your body produces oxytocin naturally), but people do become dependent on it.

Oxytocin: Not a panacea. Buyer beware.

Oxytocin is also what they give to women in order to induce labor, and it is also what the body releases naturally to cause uterine contractions. The uterine wall has a large number of receptors for Oxytocin, and contracts when these receptors are activated. So injections of Oxytocin is likely a major contradiction for women who are pregnant.

I would not use something like this under any conditions. I won't allow even the potential for some chemical to make me dependent. Ya, I know, you all are strong and have it under control. just like all the people walking into walgreens and sticking a gun in the pharmacists face at 1am. they got it under control. too. I only say, I have been there, with street drugs and done it all except the robbing people part. I have over 40 years experience putting crap in my body like that. I'm telling you, IT AINT WORTH IT!!

I know this post is old, but I'm curious about how it affects empathy. Did you notice any changes in that area? Or in terms of "Theory of Mind" - something we're notoriously bad about?
