I seem to have hit the nail on the head with the thread on 'Hot Water', so I feel lucky enough to try again...

So anyway, I was lying on my floor last night, thinking back to all the times I have lain on the floor in the past, and it occurred to me that this was a pretty autistic thing to do, especially when I have a bed or sofa to lie on. I don't know why I like lying on the floor, but I do, maybe it calms me down.

Does anybody else do the same? moreso for no apparent reason?

Love, Emma.

PPS: I'm glad I have somewhere I can write about this stuff, and know that not only will nobody call me a freak, but there's a good chance somebody will say, 'Hey! I do that too.'

No, I don't do that.

I did just sit on the floor of the shower for half an hour until the water ran cold, I do that a lot and thats fairly odd.

I don't lie on the floor, but I do post things on WP chat forums to see if it's just me, or if someone else will say "Hey, I do that too."

And I do tend to zone out in the shower until the water gets cold.

I lay on the floor sometimes whenever I get bored.

I used to do that ALL the time. I also used to love, and would love to today if it didn't seem strange and I really had enough space, etc... To relax in front of the TV like a lot of kids do with my face and legs up and chest to the ground.

That SECOND one is almost like a stim and like those stims it seems almost every kid does it, and most stop. Apparantly autistics never REALLY stop with the other stuff.

Used to. Used to go to the porch and bang my head on the floor, too. I dimly remember many years ago (I must have been 4 or 5, tops!) when I went to a supermarket in Preston and I just sat there in the middle of the floor. Could my parents move me? Oh, no. They had to drag me out! But do I lie on the floor these days? No. :)

They're all there. What these traits amount to, collectively, is a description of Asperger's Syndrome.

BTW I LOVE it when people start topics like this. I can see even things I never really thought about with my character. The stim part, for example. The plain description of a stim makes me want to say "HECK NO, I don't do that!". THEN, they give examples, and I think "WHOA, I DO!"

I love lying on the floor and I still do it at the age of 46. It is very comforting. I particularly enjoy lying on my front watching TV.

WOW, now I don't feel so odd! Just a few days ago I heard a comment on TV about it. They poked fun at someone else that did this. I guess that is more of a reason to clean up my floor! I wonder if I could get to liking it more than my lay-z-boy(Mine is a chair recliner that can become almost like a bed, and it can rock). BTW I got the recliner from my mother because the doctor said it would help my recovery when I had a hard time just getting to the other side of the house, about 60 feet(approx 19 meters) away.

I do love feeling like I'm part of the in-group instead of being a weirdo.

I haven't lain on the floor that often in the past few months, mainly because I moved into a flat with laminate flooring, which hurts a great deal to lie on. I don't lie on my front (I wonder why?), mostly it's my side or back.

I don't watch television while I'm doing this (I don't have one, and really am surprised that everybody seems to manage with having one). I listen to the radio and either stare at the ceiling or across the floor.

My new wash powder doesn't seem to dissolve properly in the washing machine, so my floor is covered in little white granicules, it looks like I've been holding the best party in the world!

With love from the now-perfectly-upright-because-I-am-at-work Emma.

Well, I have to agree with a part of this. One of the things that led me to discovering AS was how many times I would read random ramblings by aspies, detailing their quirks, and suddenly it would hit me like a bolt of lightning that I did the same thing, and that it was something that I've always done, but never really been aware that it made me different. One that really struck me was that aspies are known to close one eye when exposed to sudden bright light. On the other hand, I'm a bit skeptical about linking absolutely everything I do to AS ... I mean, we do still have thing in common with "normal" people, right?

And to contradict myself ....yes, I love sitting/lying on the floor. It's my preferred place to be. If I sit on a chair, I almost always sit with my legs up. Funny enough, when I was a kid I would often pull my bedding off the bed and sleep on the floor. I prefer watching tv sitting on the floor. Reading/writing is always best done lying on the ground. In fact, the only reason I in any way use a chair is because its really difficult to use a PC for hours at a stretch while lying down. Can't wait for some radical new input device to address this obvious shortcoming :)

I never laid on the floor (I didn't want to get dirty) but when I was about three, I would watch videos in my parents' room and I would always have to sit in the laundry basket. My friend did the same thing, though, so it could've been just us.

As a child, I used to lie on the floor a lot, now I do it when I have no other choice to and I don't want to stand or sit (although not in public places).

I lie with my arms prone (palms facing upwards) for extended periods.

Its a rehab/preventative exercise for RSI.

Sometimes I sleep on the floor, even though my bed is very comfortable.
