Is it an autism thing to have trouble with organisation?
I have always had trouble with organisation. Meaning that I'm perfectly able to organise things into categories etc, but when it comes to remembering to bring the right things to the right place at the right time, I'm quite bad. Teachers get cross when I forget my homework or my books etc, but I always feel like it's not my fault - I'm just bad at organising. Teachers always say things like "well, you should have packed your bag the night before" but I already do pack my bag the night before! I think a main part of the problem is that there's always a different reason why I forget to bring something, so no one single solution will fix everything.
For example, here are some reasons why I've forgotten to bring books/homework before:
-Once, I wanted to remember to bring my French book to school, but I was doing my French homework (in the book) after the time when I would normally pack my bag. So I decided to wait until after finishing that homework to pack my bag, so that I didn't forget it... and because of that, I somehow forgot to pack my bag at all and ended up bringing the previous day's books to school.
-Once, when my homework had to be done on paper, I put it between the pages of my exercise book so that I didn't forget it... but it turned out to be the wrong exercise book (I have 4 maths teachers, so I put it in the wrong maths book).
-I've brought my old book instead of my new book for a certain teacher
-I've just forgotten to bring the book...
-I've forgotten which day of the week it is and packed for the wrong day
-Once, I forgot while packing my bag that I hadn't yet finished packing my bag, so only brought half the books I needed.
-If I get a new book after having done the homework, I have put the homework in the old book, brought the new book to school instead of the old one, causing the homework to stay at home.
I have tried the following strategies to stop me forgetting things (usually in response to me forgetting something, I think of a new strategy):
-Writing the name of the teacher on the homework so that I don't put it in the wrong book
-putting my old books in a different box to the new ones
-double checking the day of the week
-Having my mum check my bag (although she doesn't know much about what homework I have, so this only prevents me from forgetting a book: not from forgetting a homework)
Despite the strategies, my brain keeps finding new reasons to forget my books/homework! It's so frustrating, and I hate the fact that the teachers blame me, when quite obviously, I didn't try to forget it. My question is: is this an autism thing???
I was always forgetting my homework when I was in 5th grade. I tried to put all my stuff in my book bag after I finished my homework, but my homework somehow kept ending up under my dresser or my desk. I got in a lot of trouble with my teacher, my parents, and my grandparents because I kept forgetting my homework. My teacher made me get organized.
I had problems too at school with forgetting homeworks, books and other things. I still dont underestand, why after 6-8 hours at school do homework at home. When I come home from work, I relax, none homeworks. Writing homework has bothered me, often I did homeworks at school.
You can write notes about homeworks and books, what you will need, in one place and when you prepare at school, use your notes - list of items, what you need.
When you are not sure, if you should take old or new book, you can take both.
When I was older, I left some books at school and I had copy at home.

To clarify: the thing about old vs new books, I mean that when I recieve a new book, sometimes I will forget that I've recieved it, so will bring the old one instead. I just see the book with the teacher's name and bring it, then realise later that it's not the most recent.
@Nira
I forget and lost stuff all the time. Write everything down on a calendar so you can cross off homework/days and check your bag before you leave (maybe even double check). Have a smaller calendar and leave it in your bag so you can write down your homework and it can help your mom help keep track too. Try forming a routine and putting things in a certain place every time.
