Easterseals group experience

Both of my sons, ages 5 and 6, are diagnosed autistic (eldest is also ADHD), and our doctor recommended trying Easterseals out. I've heard/read a lot of mixed reviews on ABA, but mostly negative, so I approached all this very tentatively. Tonight we were invited to go to a autism social gathering put on by the local Easterseals people, and I really think they need serious help.

I may be autistic, but I've dealt with the public and events enough to know that they don't actually know what they're doing. They ran out of craft materials, they didn't even know what kind of food they'd gotten catered (I had to open one of the burritos to tell them), I'm not even sure the kids there ate any of the food (my kids wouldn't touch anything), and the room we were in was small, crowded, with no room to move without bumping into other people. My chest still hurts from being elbowed so many times.

I was wondering if other people have had experience with Easterseals, and what it was like. Our first one on one session is next Monday, and I'm sort of knowing what to expect. We are doing the parent training, rather than the person working directly to "fix" my kids, which I think will work better, since these people don't seem to have a clue how autism works... There were so many kids melting down tonight
I guess I'm kinda hoping I can get some tricks for coping with the NT world better myself as well, but... I'm feeling disheartened. If they can't understand autism, how can they expect to help autistic people?
