I know that doesn't really make much sense lol but it is a thing! At least it is for me.

I was just having a casual thought and was remembering the smell of metal/copper. It makes my teeth feel weird, as if i want to curl them up into my gums like a snail. It's only the metal/coppery smell that has this affect on my teeth.

Anyone else?? :alien: :alien:

I'd never given it any thought but doesn't everyone feel like this? If they don't, then I've learnt something new today :) The smell of blood in particular sets my teeth on edge. Now I'm wondering if other people can smell blood :|

Is it a normal thing? I've never really voiced it out before, and i've not some across anyone else talk about it.

Those smells make my teeth feel the same way. The smell of sparklers does that to my teeth as well.

Same. Blender makes them feel weird. Frozen pomegranates too.

Never noticed that before. Smells affecting my teeth. Never. Never even heard of it.

But at odd occasions when Ive injured my nose I often feel the pain in one or all of my teeth. More pain in my teeth than from my nose itself. Often the wiring of your nervous system gets crossed and you can feel the pain in one part of your body in another body part.

I guess its possible that you could be SO revolted by a smell that your whole face contorts in response, and that you feel sensations in your teeth. Just a guess.

The existence of that phrase outside this thread says it all. The idea being that a negative sensation is experienced as a bad taste or an odd "tingling" in the teeth. A variant of the phrase even shows up in a passage of Shakespeare (Henry IV, Part I).

Smells no. But the sound of metal utensils against our unglazed plates have that exact effect on me. It doesn't stop me from eating from them (although I pick the glazed plate when I can), but it makes me eat carefully (and cut carefully to make less of that noise) because it feels like my teeth just might fall out otherwise.
