Does anyone else feel ADHD may in fact be related to Autism in some way? I read the book in my link below and the author believes if she could rearrange the Autistic spectrum, ADHD would be at the top. I have a diagnosis of ADHD, which seems to fit. I would say though that when I was a child, I showed substantially more Autistic traits, such as stimming, own world etc. Though I have seen in the actuallyadhd tumblr that stimming is not uncommon amongst ADHD and hyperfocus, which can lead to obsessions. Interesting.

On a whole though, I am good at reading body language, understanding sarcasm, working out peoples intentions and getting jokes, so ASD doesn't really fit.

The way my psychologist tells it, ADD or ADHD traits appear as a subset of the autism traits.

I.E. she sees autism as usually including some degree of ADD traits, along with the other traits ascribed just to autism.

Of course, ADD / ADHD also exist as their own diagnoses.

Some (but not all) of what's been bugging me over the years would fit the description of ADD, so I'm inclined to believe it for now.

I'm interested to hear others' perspectives too.

Along with Asperger's Syndrome, I also have ADHD, OCD, Bipolar Disorder, GAD and PTSD. These have all being correctly identified and diagnosed as separate entities and oddly enough, all existing in the same mind. Mine. Most days I believe I need an entire team of mental health professionals helping me and not just one.

I'm sure there is a connection between ASD and ADHD and perhaps they're more intertwined than most people think but at this time for me and my therapist, they've been diagnosed as separate entities.

*NOTE* I forgot to add GAD in an earlier post(s) when describing my various maladies and neurosis. Apologies for the confusion.
