Support Work advice
Hi everyone,
My name is Paul and I'm a housing support worker for a company based in the North East Lincolnshire region of the UK.
I have worked in support for a long time and over the past few years have worked more and more with clients who are diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome.
I have recently been tasked with identifying how we can improve our service for these clients and how we can make it more accessible for client's who have a diagnosis of an ASC.
I thought posting here would be a good way to gather people's opinions of what they would like from a support service and what would make them feel confident in using such a service.
Currently we visit clients either in their own home or in the community at a location of their choosing.
We support in the following areas :
Setting up home and tenancy
Finance and budgeting
Maintaining the safety and security of the home
Living skills
Occupation and accessing the community
General health and wellbeing
Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated and help to create more support for people on the spectrum in my local area.
Thanks everyone!
Paul
I would say the best thing one can do is to encourage Aspies/autistics not to take statistics related to "them" seriously.
Like the oft-stated allegation that 80% of people on the Spectrum are unemployed.
I would emphasize that Aspie/autistic people are individuals, and not the composites created by researchers.
