How to achieve permanent complete deafness?

Sensory overload. Makes me burned out, can't move out. Have to constantly face sounds. How do I go completely deaf? Is there a device of some sort you can use to attach to your ears which somehow makes you temporarily deaf? How do I go permanently deaf without pain?

I wish I could offer a solution. I'm sorry you feel so bad that you would resort to drastic measures.

But none is forthcoming.

You would have to have a couple of genetic conditions in order for there to be total deafness in adulthood.

Otherwise, going deaf would most definitely involve some painful process.


Then again.....I'm starting to see this as a rhetorical question.

Seems like something to talk to a doctor about. Wanting to go completely deaf permanently sounds very extreme, but I would imagine there's probably some kind of really good ear plugs. But then again, even if the ears are completely blocked, you'd probably still have some sound leak through your head.

You get sensory issues from sound in a normal public place even with your hands over your ears?

Custom made ear plugs. Moulded to your ears and made of medical grade silicon. They fit perfectly and are very comfortable... and they don't fall out. No other ear plugs I've ever tried have cut out so much sound (presumably because they fit so well). The ones I have are made by a company called Pro Guard. They are not a permanent solution but you will be in control and it will give you some space to think clearly about it all.

what about noise-cancelling head-phones?

I don't know if this will work for you but I used to have really awfully loud neighbours I bought some noise cancelling headphones and listened to ASMR really loud because the tones where soft it was a lot less invasive.

They're great, too.

Because, then, you wouldn't have to resort to such a drastic action.

Actually, yes. Noise Cancelling Headphones would probably be pretty effective, since they actually procude sound waves that cancel out the sound waves you would otherwise be hearing.

But I still say you should talk to a doctor or someone like that first - deafness, for someone who is used to hearing, can be quite dangerous. We use our hearing to notice things like approaching fast moving cars - wouldn't want you to get hit by a car because you didn't hear it!

Yep. You have to be aware of your surroundings at all times, making use of all your senses.

Cheaper option: I used to wear the orange expanding in the ear plugs (the ones that you can buy at apoteket, I see you are in Sweden, just checked and they cost 35 sek for 5 sets) and then on top of that builders ear defenders ( over the head style) ones that you wear on a building site. It was totally quiet I can assure you. For a while I even slept like that. That way you could also regulate and take the over the head ones off when you were walking near traffic as that would let some noise through.
