Additionally, if you have ever changed your interest, how did you do so?

It's a very odd question but after being interested in what I am currently for 6 years, and something before that for 8, I've realized that I am very obsessive and often lacking in other important areas like basic life skills, self-care, and my own emotional wellbeing. I actually did make a conscious effort to change twice, not because I dislike my interest but because I became worried that my brain would reroute itself to be stuck in the same set of thoughts forever.

I was able to become mildly interested in some other fields, and while doing this tried to break my rigid schedule so I could fit in more daily activities, but in the end I usually revert back to my uncompromising behavior. I've found rather humorously however that while attempting to change my interest, I actually become obsessed with the attempt or nature of obsession itself rather than the interest.

It seems that if we put effort in, we do have a degree of control over what we're interested in, though it usually has to be one thing, and we have to have enough information about the topic to become engaged in it. It has to have variety and be organized, so something like types of cars or chemistry works perfectly because they both follow rules. It also has to have a consistent means of gaining information, for me at least. I've used a combination of science articles and Wikipedia, but if I can't find resources for something and gradually lose interest, I either create my own concepts and articles or I just keep rereading the same material to solve questions I had beforehand, and I think it's a waste of time.

Nothing, wouldn't pick anything else. My interest is my interest for a reason.

If I wanted something to be my special interest, I'm pretty sure it would already be. I've had to hide some special interests from certain people but that's different. But I like my special interests as they are. Try to limit them or take them away and you have a good chance of starting WW3.

None.

The only change I'd want with it is more time, more energy, more money... My special interest would've been more profitable if I had more of those things.

I often change interest. Something catches my attention and then I become totally focused. I put all my energy into the subject and when I am happy with it, something else catches my attention. It is not that I put away my old special interest. The interest are still there and they are still my special interest.

For example, the interest in historical weather events caught my attention so I wrote a wrote a 1,400 page book on the subject. It took about a year and quite a bit of research using historical documents scattered around the world often in other languages or ancient dialects. So it was an interesting experience.

Currently I am focused on Asperger's Syndrome, secondary causes and treatment methodology. Since I am an Aspie and since I had a couple children that turned out fine, I am interested in this subject because I have 5 grandchildren and some of them display interesting characteristics. So you might say that I am working on a legacy to help them and their parents out if they need it.

Generally this accumulation of special interest is the making of something called "The Renaissance Man".

If you could change your interest, what would you pick?

tidying the house
getting fit
going outside

I think I’d pick fitness and computers. I could stand to shed some pounds, and it seems like so many other aspies are great with computers while I’m horrible with them. You can make some big bucks if you know your way around a computer.

Something practical

Coding , programming computer

Fix house

Drive car

Social relationship

Not holding grudges

Since September 2012, I have gone to between one and seven new bathrooms a week. Bowel movement.

Travelling is good for the brain.

But the hobby serves no function

Some bathrooms are crowded, dangerous, dirty, gross

Some idiots pound impatiently on the door

At least twice, security told me to leave the bathroom

I've kinda lost a couple of interests that I wish I could get back. Not sure if that counts as changing an interest. But they are:

-Drawing/art
-Web design, including programming
-Dancing, sports and general exercise

I think my meds might have something to do with my lack of motivation for them. Other than that I don't think I'd change my other interests. They're awesome.

Definitely sports.

In this society, sports is one of the most socially beneficial interests. Being a fan brings up tons of conversation routes that almost every normal person enjoys and also opens up a huge group of other people with an interest in sports.

Then there's the potential in playing the sports themselves and the huge social circles that opens up.

Maybe in 2070 or so my obsession with competitive gaming will be a social benefit, rather than something one mostly has to ignore in the real world.

I do change my interests often. I love to learn new things and my mind constantly searches for information and then tries to fit it with already present knowledge.
When the topic is not "new" anymore and my knowledge of it is built in a neat structure, my interest weakens and I only occasionally refer to my existing knowledge when I need to or when I came upon a new interesting fact about it.

Cosmetics and beauty, and going out to bars and getting drunk, because then I'd fit in more. But unfortunately my brain isn't wired to be interested enough to live up to it.

I have multiple interests. If I could change anything, it would be to make more profitable use of my time and abilities.

I just don't see the use in going out, getting drunk, then vomiting afterwards.

I feel like you respect these people too much. There are many people who don't believe going to clubs, getting drunk, etc., are a great way to spend a Saturday night.

But it would make a huge difference to my social life.
