This is something that I've done since as far back as I can remember. Every time I get a bottle of Coke, Root Beer etc, I'll shake the fizz out of it because it's way to carbonated if I don't.

Is it possible that this is a sensory sensitivity/overload thing, or is it just a qwark?

I like soda to be room-temperature and mostly-flat.
But not entirely flat. I like a bit of fizzle in there to tickle my tongue.
If I have stuffy sinuses, I'll want more fizzle because that feels like it helps clear them up somewhat.
The bigger issue is the temperature. It's absurd that people set their drinks in buckets of ice at parties, then when I ask for a non-cold one, they say, "They're all in the bucket." So I have to pluck a less-cold one off the top and dry it off and wait a bit before drinking it.
Also there's the absurd practice of adding ice to drinks at restaurants. If I wanted ice, I would have asked for ice. Asked for "non-iced lemonade" is like having to specify "unleaded gasoline." It doesn't start with lead in it.

I don't drink actual soda and haven't since I was a teenager. But I do drink carbonated water and kombucha which I don't mind the fizziness at all :D

Gosh we seem to have the same percularities when it comes to food. I hate soda and never drink it (not even at parties or special occasions), not necessarily because of the flavor, but because the carbonation in it feels like it is burning my mouth out from the inside. It could be a typical quirk, but judging by other sensory issues you have described, it is likely gustatory sensory sensitivity, IMO.

I like fizz but I much prefer to make my own. I just get carbonated water and add flavored Stevia drops or a little bit of organic juice or iced tea.

Totally agree with you there. No idea whether it's a sensory issue, but I very much prefer pop flat to fizzy.

Honestly, I'm not much of a fan of pop at all - I'll usually just drink tap water instead. But if I am drinking pop, I much prefer it flat.

You are quite the splendid snail sir, if I may say so myself. I don't know why I had the urge to say that just now. It just felt good to say it. Really fun. :D

I wonder if we could put a top hat on your avatar. Don't know why I am so goofy right now. Must be the soda. :D

Soda isn't too fizzy for me. I like me some soda pop, and it needs to be ice cold. I can't stand flat soda.

But I want my water still.

fizzy = good. :chef: but too much fizzy is sorta like swallowing one of those hand buzzer thingies.

Pop stinks because it's fizzy, excessively sweet, overpriced, and less valuable than the container it's in. Fizzy drinks make me nauseous. I can't stand more than about two Timbits before I have to stop, just too much sugar.

Seriously I can't figure out how people spend so much money on what amounts to nothing more than water, artificial flavouring, CO2, and sugar.

FYI: 7 Up contained lithium (atomic mass=6.941) and coca-cola contained cocaine, once upon a time. All to make the beverages more addictive, but they seem to be addictive enough for lots of people even without extra spiking.
