Those are better left alone for the ASD person. We are more adept at one on one. I'm stretched managing a three way convo....haha it ends up being a two way as I'm left behind. On occasion though I've been able to keep the third person from taking over the conversation. Once I even suggested the third person who walked up and changed topic that she wait or stay on the current topic. That was fun.

I'm definitely not better one on one. One on one I'm expected to hold my own in conversion, which I often don't do too well. In a group situation like a restaurant, where we're all sitting around a table and the group is constant, I can fade into the background if I don't know what to say.

The worst case scenario for me, though, is a party situation where I'm expected to actually find people to socialise with. In this situation, I usually end up standing around alone not talking to anyone, feeling awkward.

Agree with you on the party situation. I always have that "want to sink through the ground" kind of feeling although on rare occasions I manage to find a kindred soul and just zone the party out.

I can operate splendidly one on one with male friends. For hours even days without feeling socially worn out.

With female friends.... well I only really have one, it works ok but makes me much more exhausted.

In a group, goes downhill pretty fast.

I am moving into a situation where there are going to be increasing social demands on me and I was speaking to someone and she was saying "oh, and you have to join the Facebook group... we do social stuff together all the time...." And I had this sinking feeling. I am not on Facebook and I am not going out with a whole bunch of women in that kind of activity. No way.

Parties are awkward for me too. I always end up by myself with no one to talk to. People pretty much have their groups and I'm not in any of them. It doesn't matter if I got there first or last, I always end up at a table by myself.

Group conversations are definitely challenging because there is always a person in the group that dominates the conversation or tries to leave me out. I don't like being a third wheel.

I can do well with one on one conversations if I really connect with the person. Sometimes I feel like I don't have much to bring to a conversation because I find that most people can't relate to me and my life experiences.

When you've had it rough......not easy to relate to the leisure crowd.

^^^^ Me, too.

I don't go to parties anymore. Period. One of the better decisions I have made in life. :D
