Is there a phone number to call to reach someone when having a bad sensory day? This has been a day oscillating between creepy crawley feelings and being burned alive so an understanding person would be so helpful to talk to.

Psychology Today has a ton of specialist forums for many many topics like this. I don't know of any phone line, and general helplines are unlikely to have the knowledge to meet your needs.

So sorry you are going through this. Your best bet it to just get close to people here. This is just another reason that shows me how important it is for us to set up Autistic help lines run by Autistics for Autistics. We had started a thread about that. We really need to see if we can make that happen.

that is a great idea! someone trained + who has inside understanding. who is to say the community can't come together and create networks of support? a good way to counter the "i have a healthy brain i know what's good for everyone" power dynamic

Skibum and I intend to continue in a plan we have begun offline to build allies and if a coalition can be identified and created, then the coalition can make applications for funding from institutions that fund public good projects with well defined proposals and implementation plans.

In my experience on other major projects, this is an effective pathway to establishing new initiatives for minorities whose needs are overlooked by conventional service deliverers.

Aspie Utah, if you are a member of ASAN, could you please contact me by PM about this (if you read this).

Thank you for the kind replies. Still bad creepy crawley, can't sleep very well. On my bed hugging a bunch of stuffed animals trying to cope. At least I got my books to engage me until this calms down. I wish there was a support group in my little town of Juneau, Alaska. At least I can run into the wilderness to try and cope if I can avoid the bears.

Would it help to take a bath or to apply lotion? Sometimes when I have sensory looping on my skin, I can relieve it a little bit by applying a new sensation to create a new stimuli to kind of try to neutralize or distract me from the sensation I am feeling. Sometimes I will even cause myself pain in order to distract myself from the sensation. I don't want to encourage people to self harm. I have actually learned to cause myself pain without causing damage in order to deal with some sensory overload especially when it is a sensation on my skin. I know that sounds weird but it really does help me. You could try it without actually causing real harm to yourself and see if it helps. For example, I will pinch my skin or if I am having sensory looping on my finger I will squeeze it super tight until I feel real pain and that helps me deal with the sensory loop without actually causing real harm to myself.

A phone number?

Talking on the phone causes more sensory issues than it solves

Precious lil "people" talk too much, too loud, and etc cetera
