What age did you first know the alphabet off by heart?

I'm just wondering, what is the average age a child can say the whole alphabet? I was 8 when I first knew the alphabet off by heart. But I believe 8 might be later than average.

When did you first know the alphabet off by heart?

I was at most 5---probably younger.

I knew the alphabet, and how to do simple arithmetic, before I can speak and write.

I don't remember NOT knowing the alphabet, or the numbers from 1 to 100.

One thing I didn't know until MUCH later was the corresponding sound of letters---"D" sounding like "duh," for example. I learned how to read through sheer whole-word memory.

This is an amazing accomplishment---for somebody who doesn't know the alphabet by heart.

I cannot do it in order, and I think that's what the op meant. And my spelling sucks, I just use spell check.

There's no "grammar check," unlike "spell check."

I'm saying.....that you've been able to adapt so well....that your "disabilities" don't seem like "disabilities" at all at times.

I wasn't skeptical about what you said. I was just amazed at your ability to adapt.

Second grade. 7 years old, I guess. My daughter learned to sing the abc song by age 4, I think.

By the age of 3 I knew how to read and write.

In 1st grade (age 6) I corrected everyone's typos and mistakes. I remember everybody came to me for having their words fixed. While we were taught the alphabet etc I was terribly bored

But I learnt how to read an analogue clock and tell the difference between left and right way before that.
