I am confident I am not the first one to bring this up.

I know three people in person who have aspergers and they all loooooove cats; hardly a scientific sample. Even so, it makes me wonder if there's something about autistic people that makes them love, with a capital "L" cats.

I am aware that there are NTs that also love cats.

I like them, but not in any way that I would consider to be particularly unusual.

Maybe cats are a special interest for you and some other people with ASD?

I think there is a special place in many AS hearts for our four-legs-good feline companions.

Well, I think it's related to the independent, even aloof, nature of cats, compared to dogs. We feel they are kindred spirits. They love us, but no need to get all mushy about it, you know?

I like cats OK but I prefer dogs. Dogs are alot more consistent, predictable & routine oriented. Dogs can also be trained to be support animals. I would like a dog but my girlfriend prefers cats thou she loves dogs too so we have a cat & our place is kind of small to have a dog too.
It seems like LOTS of NTs love cats too so I don't think there is a much higher percentage of autistics that prefer cats than the general population

I like cats more than I like most people. My cats are always happy to see me and I find it very relaxing to cuddle with my cats.

Count me in as a member of the cat loving club! As Bea and ladyelaine said, they are great companions. I have had many cats (and dogs, too) and those furry friends are great companionship.

I like cats best because (in my experience) they're softer, quieter, less needy, better-smelling and more easily house-broken than other popular furry pets. :cat:

I love cats, but I prefer dogs. But, my aspie friend (first aspie friend I have ever met) is obsessed with cats and small dogs like pugs

I've always been a cat person, and there was always a cat in the house when I was growing up, though I've not always had one at home later in life. I like all animals, but cats are rather special to me, and I always stop to have a chat with them whenever I meet one. It's not unusual that I'm sat with a cat on my lap giving it a fuss before their owner has finished telling me how kitty is really scared of people (maybe the cats are trying to tell me I'm not people? 8O )

Of the other two autistic people I know IRL, one is definitely more of a dog person, and the other is not a pet person at all, as far as I know. However, among my other friends and family, the majority are cat lovers, so I wonder; are people who like cats more likely to get on with autistic people?

I’ve been a cat person my entire life and have always felt that they were kindred spirits, even though I never had pets growing up. I do have a cat now as an adult. My husband is also a cat person.

I don't have any indoor cats now, just feral cats. When I go outside to feed them, I love watching them.

I'm a big animal lover. My favorites are dogs and cats. If I had to choose, I'd say I'm probably a little bit more of a dog person, but I love and have both.

I adore dogs. They have always been a special interest of mine. With that being said, I like cats, too. My parents’ cat loves me and comes running when I call him.

I have a much easier time connecting with animals than with people. I’ve had wonderful and satisfying friendships with dogs and cats.

My best friend once was a spoiled Persian named Zum Zum.
