I don't know about others experience with using computers but I find them to be the most frustrating , illogical and downright maddening devices ever invented . I've read that people like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs were probably on the spectrum but I would never have guessed given how unintuitive their products are . I also find that the display is very uncomfortable and recently changed it . The typical bright white background and small black letters gave me headaches and eyestrain after a long session . I changed the background color to light blue and the fonts to dark blue and wow , what a difference . I can read for hours now with no headache :D
Anyone else experience this ?

Forgive me if this subject has been raised previously , I'm new to this site .

Technology is my special interest and my job.

I absolutely love them.

This may sound odd coming from me, as computers are sort of a special interest of mine, but I find they can be quite frustrating as well.

Computers have angered me in the past and still do now.

The way they get such a severe virus that you have no other choice but to pay someone to come out and manually defeat the virus, costing me almost £100.

The way they always constantly need updating, even though updated systems are getting shittier, for example the sh***y Windows 10. Worst thing I ever did.

The way they sometimes suddenly freeze for no apparent reason.

When the internet mysteriously goes offline but the computer still directs you to the internet to fix the problem.

In the olden days, updating a computer's system meant programs being faster and being able to install more stuff and the built-in programs being more effective. Nowadays updating a computer's system means certain built-in programs no longer run properly, and will no longer let you play any of your old favourite games, and the Start menu just doesn't make sense any more.

Oh, bring back the 90s technology. I know it seems crappy compared to now, but at least technology was used in moderation and people still thought for themselves and computers seemed more simple. Now it's all apps, apps, apps.

Hate them.

I can never get my head around the fact that it's a machine but I'm not allowed to see the working parts, I just have to sit there feeling useless looking at the circle going round and round.

I have picked up quite a few hints such as posting pictures quoting people since I've been on WP as there's no shortage of people on here who speak their language (literally :D ).

I used to love spending time on my comp & even wanted a job repairing computers at one point but I'm NOT skilled with em for an Aspie. The average Aspie is aLOT better with computers & other technology than me. Computers can be very frustrating for me sometimes cuz things don't work like they're supposed to. Every time there's an update for something, the settings & menus get changed around & I have to relearn how to use the program.

The only time my computer angers me is when the screen freezes during a boss battle. Otherwise, no probs!

People vary all over the place in their level of computer proficiency. And for each person, computers become frustrating when they don't perform right at that level they are proficient at.

As an autistic person, I get annoyed at changes forced upon me that I have no control over. I get pissed at computer companies when they decide to no longer support an operating system or app that I purchased as few as three years ago. I have been heard to cuss Bill Gates, even though he has minimal involvement in Microsoft's daily operations these days (maybe none - I don't follow his career that closely).

I have known people with computer phobias, who become so frustrated that they can't even press the "on" switch and check their email. And I have known people who computer expertise so much that they can tell me at the code level what's wrong, and what they're doing to fix it (to which I say, my eyes glazed over, "too much information!").

Not me, but my mom is though and she always asks me to fix some minor computer problem she has with her laptop that's 6 years old and every time I fixed her computer problem she keeps asking how I fixed it like I had the magic touch or something. I guess for someone who loves computers has some kind of magical powers to others who are not very good with them. :)

Printer out of the blue stops functioning and says it's not connected to the network.
-Update your firmware on your printer, the self guide says
So that doesn't work
-Ok, then
Update your software on your computer. Download the new patch.
Printer still not being recognized!! !

Somehow the printer will recognize my $49 smart phone, but not my $1600 laptop all of a sudden?
-Uninstall firmware/reinstall firmware
Nope
-Reset modem and router
Nothing!
That's why I'm frustrated by computers!

Thanks for your responses , I find it very interesting that some of us get along with them quite well while others are totally stressed out by them . I guess that why they call it a spectrum .

You just havne't tried Linux, lol. Take it from a programmer/software developer: when I first started(my first experiences with computers) I hated them. They didn't make since, the errors and everything else. But, for some reason I decided to write code(maybe it seemed cool to me?). Now, twelve years later I love computers: The logic that lies as base, the other logic that lies on top of that, the hardware, software, the code that I write on forums that forums that others seem to eat up like candy when they called me a script kiddie at twelve years ago.

My honest opinion: Some people have problems with computers, and that is completely fine. Some of us on the spectrum don't like this subject. Some love it. I love it, but it would be interesting to see the percentage of us that are fine with it or not.

There's a solution to that, known as Classic Shell. It allows you to get an old style start menu on Windows 10. Makes things infinitely more usable IMO.

^ I read recently that Classic Shell is no longer being developed, apparently meaning that it'll be incompatible with future updates to Windows 10. It should be fine to continue using it with Windows 8.1 though.
