Has anyone ever had a 'Special Interest' that you have kept secret away from the people you know. I was thinking about that yesterday. I remember when I was at school mainly when I was in Primary School in the Juniors I liked the Britpop Wars and all the Cool Britannia stuff. I followed Blur more than Oasis. I liked Indie/Alternate music. But when I got to secondary school that 'Special Interest' all of a sudden became very quiet. I didn't talk about it. If I had people from school come round any of my Indie Alternative Rock music CDs or Cassettes would be hidden. I found another genre of music which was reggae which I got completely obsessed with and would force that on everyone. Then after I left that school I started to be more vocal about Indie/Alternate Rock music again. I didn't lose interest just embarrassed to mention it at the time.

Most people don't know of my ambition to write Denis Istomin's life story. Most haven't even heard of him and may think it's strange for me to write the story of a player not many people know about.

Secret special interests no.

But I've had obsessions I'll never admit to. They're not bad things per se, just weird.

I NEVER talked about my celebrity crush with anyone offline except for my girlfriend but I met my girlfriend on this forum & I had posted alot about my crush obsession so I couldn't keep it a secret from her.

Yes, I very rarely share my interests with others.

Yes. But that's the most I'll say about it.

I have secret special interests, but I prefer to keep them a secret.

Yes; contrary to the "one-sided conversation" stereotype, I rarely share certain interests with others. Sometimes I go on long monologues to my mom, but that isn't often and when it does happen, it is about my interest in medicine rather than something like my favorite TV show or minecraft. I tend to still consider them special interests because they definitely interfere with things I need to get done at times, and they're basically all I do in my free time. I also know quite a bit about them, more than someone my age would (for example, when America's Got Talent is a "special interest," I know all the contestants' names, ages, acts, background, and where they live).

Well, I have a special interest in researching psychedelic substances, but I don't talk about that very much for obvious reasons! I don't actually do psychedelics, because it would be a major mental health risk for me with my history of severe OCD and panic attacks, but I love to read about people's experiences with those drugs, their effect on society, the music and philosophy influenced by psychedelia etc. It ties in a lot with my interests in psychology, philosophy of mind and 1960s history.

I also have an interest in the furry fandom, which I don't talk about very much because a lot of people have judgments about that subculture. Lately I've also had a special interest in Kanye West's music, which is very awkward given some of the ignorant statements he made a month ago.

My family doesn't know about my special interest in the actress I love and I don't want them to know. It's not because I'm embarrassed (I'm not) but they have a way of using my special interests against me and then also making fun of me for them. It's very complicated, but I believe it's best that I keep some things to myself.

They do know however that I love Doctor Who though and they are actually pretty supportive of that. However, they also know I love Anime and constantly make fun of me for that.

I have special interests that I keep a secret from my parents. I'm not going to tell them that I'm obsessed with the penis. I'm not going to tell anybody that I like to watch pimple extractions on YouTube. I'm certainly not going to tell my mum that I like the Swastika.

All right, I am going to do it. I am going to reveal my secret special interest. I am trusting you guys, so here we go!

I am into Harem anime tropes.

Again I am trusting you guys, so no mocking!

I was a closet brony for a while but one day my brother came home early and caught me watching the show and joined in. So then I told the rest of my family. It went well, though my sister still teases me about it.

Anime is another special interest that I have not been able to keep secret for long. Now I watch it with my brother and occasionally my sister.

Basically I'm terrible at keeping secrets.
