I have had this experience recently and on several occasions where I get really panicked and then eventually get pulled into this really deep slumber that lasts for three or four hours and then sometimes after that I feel better, but it’s a weird sleep it’s not quite like regular sleep. I don’t know if this is like shut down or something else

I don't really remember my shutdowns in great detail. I'm aware that I've had them but not what happened during it. Like I had one in Dublin last year. I felt really panicked and could feel the rest of the room start to disappear as I get very narrow vision and people talking to me and not really responding. I remember thinking that I needed to get out of there, then I have a brief recollection of passing one lady on the way back to my hotel room but I don't really remember walking back at all. This happened at about 9pm and the next thing I remember is being on my bed at about 3am. I knew I hadn't been asleep but I don't really know what happened or what I was feeling in that time frame.

Here's a good link about shutdowns given to me by Knofskia when I asked a similar question https://everything2.com/user/Zifendorf/ ... s/shutdown

Welcome to WP, scriptowl.

The same as NorwichGeorge, I don't remember much about the initial stage of my shutdowns as I lose awareness of my surroundings, but the fatigue that you describe is a common after-effect of both shutdowns and meltdowns.

Thanks for the link. I remember reading it quite a while ago, and I've been annoyed that I didn't bookmark it a few times!

Panic and frustration.

Mine mostly occur when I am in a conversation that is uncomfortable and often revolves around me or another person. I am often frozen. I know people are expecting a coherent answer and an answer fast to what is usually a very important topic and I need time to give it that I do not have.

I'm the same way, ASPartofMe. I can usually converse easily about most subjects but, when I have to give a very specific answer and I know no other will do, I can't think of it.
