I have noticed that my relative that is an adult and has AS does not like to watch TV.

Is this typical? Is it the brightness of the picture that is troublesome?

WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING? :P

Anyway, I dunno. I do have to have the sound up loud so I can tell what they're saying (not deaf). But it's not a problem

No, but these days I am a bit selective about what I watch and a lot of stuff is recorded so I can skim through the adverts.

Yes. I can't sit down and watch TV/movies very well, all the worse if I don't have subtitles on.

I don't like the shows that they have on TV, these days, and that's why I'd rather be on the Internet, and listening to my music.

I prefer books and the internet, although I do sometimes enjoy crime dramas (csi, criminal minds, bones, ect).

I love watching television. I have no problem with the colors and the sound at all...unless the sound is too loud, in which case I can easily turn down the volume.

However, I find that whenever I have internet access, I watch considerably less television.

I usually find that I can become totally absorbed in TV & Movies and if my viewing is interrupted for any reason I find it difficult change my focus to the interruption - even if I want to. It is like there is some lingering impression of the story which remains running in my mind for a while. A similar thing happens if I read a book.

I also tend to prefer the volume to be softish but I can struggle to understand what is being said. Closed Captions are my friend - especially if I am watching something from the UK.

I very much enjoy watching TV and have no problem with sound, understanding of the actors speaking their lines, colors and so on.

What I do have problems with on both TV shows and commercials are the "flashing-light" effects, can't think of anything specific as an example right now, but hopefully you know what I'm writing about.

My preferred shows involve crime dramas, military dramas and mythology related shows.

It depends on what is on and if the sound is "off" or uneven. I also hate it when sound effects screech and drown out peoples voices. It makes it hard to concentrate on the story at hand.

I love movies and have no problem with television IF there's programming worth watching. Its crazy that with all the channels available now, there actually seems to be less worthwhile entertainment to be had, than in the days when there were only three networks in the whole US.

I am often annoyed by some contemporary crime drama shows whose producers seem to feel that going from quiet conversation to LOUD BOOMING MUSIC is somehow hip and cool. When you live in an apartment complex, its infuriating to have to turn the volume way up to follow the story and dive for the remote every time the scene changes so the bass in the surround sound doesn't rattle the neighbor's walls.

As far as sensory stuff, he might be sensitive the strobing/flickering. I don't have that too badly; if I'm far enough from the TV it's not a problem. I've also found that I like having the closed captioning on -- didn't realize how much of my confusion about shows came from missing dialog. Also I just saw a thread here about having trouble telling the characters in movies apart. If someone had all that going on at once pretty badly maybe it would make TV not worth the trouble.

Over the last 20 years my TV viewing has decreased pretty steadily. I'm not into sports, and there's rarely good movies on (can't afford HBO/etc.). I also hate 'reality' TV. I'm down to the animated stuff on the cartoon network late at night, Myth Busters, and old Law & Order reruns (not the new USA ones, gakk).

I think I read that TV viewership is being lost to internet usage, in general, actually.

I have trouble focusing my visual attention. I can't keep my eyes on a TV for very long.

TV is very uncomfortable to watch. The sampling rates in the A/D conversions and the D/A conversions are way to slow. When I watch TV and something is in motion on it. I don't see the smooth motion. I see the individual jerking little frames caused by the sampling rates. My eyes and brain process it faster then they sample it. They need to speed it up.

My tv is actually on constantly. I like to watch Comedy Central, Animal Planet, sitcoms, stand-up comedy, and if nothing good is on then i still like having the background noise. Plus, the dogs get confused when the tv goes off.
