I find it difficult a lot especially with things like social media where I don’t understand what tone someone is talking.

Someone may be messaging me giving an opinion and I don’t know whether they are nicely explaining, being argumentative or even being nasty.

Wish at those times I can understand what sort of tone they are speaking in. It has called endless meltdowns and burnouts etc.

I usually can't determine what tone of voice a person is using in texts unless I know them really well. It's frustrating when you can't figure out if a person is answering in a nice way or a mean way.

NTs can't always tell if someone texting is joking or being serious, either. That's why they created "smileys" :)

But it's not always easy to tell what emotion smileys or emojis are supposed to be, either. For example there's an emoji that I thought was showing severe anger because it looks like it's blowing smoke out of its nostrils, but when I moved my arrow over it it said the emotion was "triumph".

I used this topic as a way to explain some of my social interaction problems the other day. The person I explained this to is NT and they know about me being Autistic. I tried to explain that in a normal conversation with people I feel the same way as they do reading a text. It’s hard for me to know what is really going on in a conversation. Does this make sense to anyone here?
