In our world, we have a perennial debate on Autism "services" - vocational rehabilitation, ABA, sheltered workshops, special education, etc. If the situation was reversed, and NT's were a minority in a world primarily populated by neurodiverse people, what accommodations or services would NT people need in order to function in that world (have friends, make a living, etc.)?

Part of me feels that NT's would actually not need that many services, as neurodiverse people would be naturally accommodating, but I wanted to get some other opinions. Would NT's need some sort of "Reverse ABA" to learn to act like the majority? Would they need special job placement programs?

Not exactly reverse ABA, but job wise do to lack of special interests they would likely be considered impaired, so either sheltered workshops or job training. Also, do to rigidness to conform to social standards, I see therapy being invented to try to counter that.

Mild sedatives to combat their incessant need to socialize.

 for some of them you may need more than a mild sedative.

They's definitely need something to keep them quiet, or we could call them 'weird'. Not that I'm bitter or anything.

They'd have to learn how to work as fast as us and to concentrate for more than about 10 minutes, without taking time out to discuss their family/friends/last nights TV/their health etc. etc. whilst in the workplace.

They'd probably need quite powerful anti-depressants to deal with a much quieter world, without mindless group behaviour or violence for the sake of violence.

They would also have to learn to deal with poor employment prospects. I suspect that in our world, most middle-management positions would be regarded as pointless and eliminated. Aspie businesses would probably have one person in charge and nobody in the middle attending meetings and pushing paper around.

I would make some simple accommodations such as allowing them chit chat yackety yack breaks. A bit like smoke brakes, and designate a suitable area for them so they did not disturb everyone else.....

NT's would need to take social skills classes to learn how not to be social climbers and how to be true friends.

Tell the NTs to come to an event or their job an hour early so that they will show up on time instead of being late. If an event is at 2:00, tell the NT to be there at 1:00 so they will show up 20 to 30 minutes early instead of 20 to 30 minutes late.

Give them no more than 5 minutes a day to blab about their kids/grand kids.

Limit the NT children to one extra curricular activity per school year.

Virtual reality glasses that would then they see people would mimic nonverbal body language.

Gossip video games.

A translator that would change words into euphemisms.

NT'S would need classes about not having need to socialize or have friends, and not be such hateful and annoying idiots that only care about socializing.

Ladyelaine,

I agree.

They need workplace training on how to actually do their jobs, rather than gabbing on and on about nothing.

I would love to see people learn how to be more effective at their jobs.
