My NT brother and my autistic sister have both been stopped by cops and store security guards. My brother had a punk look to him when he was a teenager so damn near every time he would walk to his friends' houses at night, the cops always stopped him and questioned him. They thought my brother looked like he was about to rob somebody's house or something. My sister got picked up by cops when she was walking home from her bus stop. They thought she looked suspicious. My sister was scared and couldn't understand why the cops picked her up. A manager at a department store thought my sister was going to steal merchandise and was following her in the store. They wanted to call security, but my sister's guidance counselor happened to be in the store that day so she straightened out the manager and explained my sister's behavior to him.

Family Dollar sucks. So does Dollar General and Dollar Tree. Their brands of food and drinks are horrible. A lot of their products are flimsy and overpriced.

No, they usually just walk right on by, going about their business, not even noticing me. :)

I’m never viewed as the least bit suspicious. They always treat me very respectfully and call me ma’am.

They are always very nice to me, and they greet me nicely all the time, and I am always nice back.

I must look like a typical shoplifter as security guards immediately spring into life when I enter shops , I even remove my sunglasses but it doesn't help.

The Dr who diagnosed me said it's the look in my eyes and shifty lack of eye contact. She also said there is also a high probability that I will get into trouble with the police just for being me ( I believe everyone is of equal status and don't respect the concept of hierarchy )

Actually, yes.
Security at work.

Probably
because I try to work
when & where
no one is around.

& because
I've had some
legendary meltdowns.
Oh, that.

Feast your peepers,
boys.

I attract them when I'm joyriding on my off-nights. I mean, someone driving a pick up truck around nice neighborhoods in a small city at 3 am is rather suspicious...

^ I was stopped at 3am and the police said there are only two type of people out this time in the morning. Milkman & burglars , I pointed out that the both of us were neither so he was wrong - that didn't go down well

Whenever I enter a place such as a shopping mall, I always look at the security guard(s) for a moment before resuming normal behavior. I generally do not attract attention from security guards or the police due to the fact that I am very skilled at masking. I think the police and security guards tend to go after the autistic people who are not as skilled at masking such as those who stim frequently in public.

This used to happen a lot when I was younger. Their excuse was that I was acting odd. Funny thing is that I did not perceive myself as odd back then. Now, after just about every interaction a self evaluation highlights where I could have done better. My wife says that I mask very well in public, but let it all hang out in private.

Sometimes, I think, unless I’m over thinking it.

On the same token, strangers often turn to me for help and a coworker once asked me to accompany her since she didn’t feel safe around a maintenance crew (there were other guys around that she could have asked). So people trust me inherently as well.
