It seems I’ve been becoming unraveled. I’m just tired, tired of trying, tired of work, tired of people etc. I go to an ASD specific counselor and we are trying to figure out what’s going on. I’m just exhausted and ready to give up. Am I on the verge of “Autistic Burnout “. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I get plenty of excercise, eat healthy and an fit. I know the common response is “examine you’re diet”

Are you giving yourself time to relax or break down? Just some space to think over everything, and respond how you will?

Maybe your stressed out from things going on in your life. If that's the case it may help to try & address the causes/triggers & perhaps being on meds for stress like beta-blockers will help too.

For me, when I feel like that, it means I need serious and protracted rest. I think it is no more than exhaustion from having to perform/mask/cope with a world that moves too fast and too differently for me.

It sounds like burnout. Another common response. is getting more rest, taking a break and so on. Those options are good advice for any burnout, Autism related or not.

More autism specific advice is figuring out and minimizing the multitasking and sensory overload in your life. Does your job require excessive interaction with other people? That would do it over time.

My other advice would is figure and do your stims when you can.

Does your counselor have a clue as to what autistic burnout is?

I agree with ASPartOfMe, this sounds like it is probably burn-out. Quite simply, keeping up the mask of normality whenever we're out in wider society just puts so much pressure on our minds that they simply have to have a rest sometimes. As we've grown up doing this, it's not unusual that we underestimate the pressure that this puts us under - it becomes normal to us, and difficult to appreciate how much harder we're working to be sociable compared to the people around us.

Here's a link to an excellent article about burnout which moderator B19 posted recently; I found it very useful to help me understand burn-outs; maybe you will find it useful too.

Thanks for that Trogluddite. An excellent article with some interesting links buried within!

Good to hear you are doing better.
I'm lucky enough to have enough seniority at work that I get a lot of vacation days to take every year.
I also try to get enough sleep. I'll even get a few hours of sleep in the early evening, if I need it.

I also have a yard in which I can do gardening tasks to recharge after work.
