This a twofold question. Do you have a special interest that you had and when you look back and think about you end up cringing.

Also have you got a special interest which you wished you had earlier in life?

I will answer yes to both.

Yes, at age 13 to age 17 I had an obsession with this couple that lived next door to my cousins. There was nothing extraordinary about this couple, I was just obsessed for whatever reason. I developed an obsession with the woman and sexual crush on the man. It was embarrassing because by the time I was 14 I had made enemies out of them because of making myself known around them. I found out everything about them (I got information from my cousins because they lived in the house next door to them, and the rest I got from the internet or from observing them). It did look like stalking, but I couldn't focus on anything else. This couple were even more important to me than my grades. Every day at school I would think about them and try to copy how they would talk to people. I gathered enough information of their personalities to know how to be like them.
It was a very embarrassing obsession. It drove friends away, got me into trouble, and just totally ran my whole life.

I was so thankful when I finally decided this couple wasn't so interesting to me any more and it got replaced by a new obsession, which I seemed more able to control.

I have been on the receiving end of something like that. Someone sent me a Facebook Friend request and she started messaging me, asking for my number. Kept asking what I was doing and trying to imitate what I was doing. After 3 days of putting up with that I had to block her.

I have had a few interests that embarrass me now when I think of them.

On the other hand, I wish I had known about Denis Istomin earlier. However, the timing turned out to be perfect. I think his story was something I could really appreciate only after I had begun to make some gains of my own and started taking tennis lessons.

At around the age of 22 I studied an introductory course in Sociology, the study of societies. It was long before I was dxd and I think I saw it as the way to learn how to function better (since I could not keep jobs or talk to people). Sociology is a very worthy subject but I think I took it too literally and I began to try to use the broadest theories to work out relationships with family and others. It didn't help that I used the very long words, which Sociology is so fond of, all of the time. Sociology can help people put some distance between themselves and everyday life so that they can find a new perspective on it. Unfortunately I was so remote from society to start with. I should have taken note of the fact that all the other students were very good at relating to people.

The interest that I should have encouraged myself with earlier is Art. I am 57 years of age now and I started my art training at 40. I always loved drawing as a child but school was too dangerous a place to relax in and so I could not connect with art classes (or any classes) there. So the interest I wish I had discovered earlier is art, as it would have helped me to communicate visually much earlier, which would have helped me.

When I was around 12-13, I developed an interest in experimenting on insects. I'd perform different experiments on them to see their reaction, if it affected them, how they healed and how the rest of the insects treated them. I also observed how their bodies decayed once dead, and looked at different ways of preservation of the bodies.
So obviously, as an animal lover who's special interest has always been animals, in fact the insects were live food for reptiles I was keeping at that time, I look back with tremendous remorse and guilt as i'd never hurt anything or anyone now.

Special interest, no, but I've had obsessions that make me cringe so badly. I just wanna forget I ever was into it and get the time and money wasted on that nonsense back.

No.

Fortune telling. I studied it a lot in my 20s and was actually pretty good at it. But I didn't believe it myself so I felt wrong to actually offer people such service. I still do it a bit here and there, free of course, mostly for fun.

I had a bad crush in this girl in my early 20s. It is possible I could have been lead to do illegal things in devotion to her.
