Do you define impairment by physical/outward capabilites or are mental/inward impairments considered too?

What examples come to mind when you think of impairments with autism and/or comorbids?

My therapist asked me if I felt impaired yesterday. My immediate answer was no, I can do anything I want, but after freaking out after an exhausting day today and rethinking it, I'm not sure... Outwardly (to others) I am a fully capable human being, but inwardly (what they don't see) is the anxiety and stress and fear that I have to fight through every day to pass as normal.

Impairment can be in any area, if you look at the dictionary definition for instance;
1.
weakened or damaged.

2.
having a disability of a specified kind.

If you cannot function as well as you used to, or as well as most people, you could be said to be impaired.

It can be temporary (impaired driving after drinking alcohol), or permanent. It could also be vacillating. You might be impaired after a lot of stressful demands, but with enough rest, perhaps you no longer would be.

To me an impairment is that is affects how you function in life and if it creates roadblocks for you. Does it affect your employment, daily living, how you handle things, friendships, etc.

An impairment can also be if it's due to other people creating those roadblocks for you but this is a gray area because it's not always defined as an impairment.
