I have never liked wearing shoes. I was known at shool as the kid who ran in socks (I used to win so got away with it  ) and in adulthood I have always taken my shoes off at work and am barefoot from the moment i walk in the door when I get home.

When I put on shoes I get a feeling of panic. It's like my feet are trapped. I hate the feeling of anything on my feet. My work shoes are so old and even have a hole in the bottom but they are the only thing I can bear putting on as they are now old and like slippers.

I was diagnosed with Aspergers 2 years ago so still on a learning curve. Could the above be AS related?

I'd say it absolutely could be a tactile sensory issue, similar to how many with ASD are annoyed by tags on clothes.

A somewhat similar thing that I have is that if I wear socks for a very long period of time (generally close to all day), I find that the hair on the top of my toes starts to feel really annoyed and I really want to take them off. This generally isn't a problem unless it's really cold and I want to be wearing socks and slippers at home, but sometimes can result in the unpleasant choice between cold feet and uncomfortable feet.

I absolutely hate having hot feet, so I'm nearly always barefoot in the house. I'll wear sandals outdoors whenever possible, and even in the snow, I prefer a regular pair of trainers - the wellies only come out if I'll be wallowing in ice cold water. I can even stand wet shoes and socks better than my feet overheating. I also have to have loads of room for my toes; my feet are very wide at the toe, and I wiggle them around and scrunch them a lot as a kind of stimming. I quite often have to compromise by buying shoes that are a bit too big for me.

Buying new shoes is my least favourite kind of shopping. I can never tell at all whether they'll be OK once I've walked them in, and even if they're a good pair, they won't feel right until I've done plenty of miles in them - the old pair have to be completely falling apart before I set foot in a shoe shop.

Annoyed! Yes, that describes it perfectly! Depending how I sleep, my bedclothes can do that sometimes; so I guess it's the same heat sensitivity for me (I don't like beds with a footboard; I often need to stick my feet completely out of the bed to be able to sleep.)

When I am home I generally go barefoot. I also tend to pick things up with my toes. If something falls on the floor, I feel why should I reach down and pick it up if my feet can do the work. Years ago, I fell in love with a type of shoe called Earth Shoes. They were extra wide and had a good tilt angle. They were super comfortable. They still make similar shoes today but probably go by other names.

I've always had sensory issues with my feet, but it's always been shoes and socks that cause the problems. Socks are actually more of an irritant to me than shoes. I cannot stand to have only socks on my feet, so I only put on socks if I plan to put shoes over them, and when the shoes come off, so do the socks. If I have to wear shoes and socks, then it's minimalist shoes that are ultra lightweight, and very thin "no-show" socks that don't rise above my ankle. Wearing heavy shoes and/or long socks drives me nuts, so I don't ever wear anything like that anymore.

Basically, the less "stuff" on my feet and legs, the better. I prefer to be barefoot whenever possible, as I'm always most comfortable that way. Wearing sandals is next-best to being barefoot, and I'll wear shorts instead of long pants anytime I can, too.

The trick is finding one pair you really like, and would want to buy all over again. I keep buying the same brand/style/color of shoe over and over. I now have five different pairs of black/grey Merrell Trail Glove 3 "barefoot shoes." I wear them for thousands of hours, basically until they develop a crack or a tear, then buy a new pair of the same shoes to start the process all over again. They're super-light, and the "breaking-in" process consists of about one day.

Often I'll be lying in bed, and my core is too cold but my feet are way too hot. Quite literally, I'll be wanting more blankets on most of my body, but have my feet sticking out to try to cool them down.

I hate wearing shoes and socks. I like being barefoot whenever I can. Where I live it is too hot to cover my feet up with shoes and socks and it is too hot to go outside barefoot. I like flip flops for every day wear and high heels for church. Sneakers are my worst enemy. I always get holes in the toe section of my sneakers. My feet get really hot and stinky when I wear socks and sneakers. I hate the smell of stinky socks.

Likewise; I wish we had the climate here to do it more often, but I'm always first to dig them out in Spring and pack them away in Autumn. If I have to wear shoes and long trousers in hot weather, it's not unusual that I get a heat rash that works its way up my legs from my ankles.

Yes; I get very annoyed when the styles are changed too often; if I had the money and space, I'd just buy a lifetime's supply outright of a good one.

I can never quite decide if it's a sensory thing or something to do with circulation. I generally have warm hands too, enough that it's been commented on by people. In cold weather, I can be shivering under several layers yet not feel the need for gloves.

My Mum swears by them, and not just for everyday wear; she hikes over moors in them and up mountain tracks. Whatever it is with my feet, she definitely has it too. The noise they make drives me a bit bonkers though!

lol. My hands are always cold, to the point that people comment on it, even though my core is fine

I have the EXACT opposite. I HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE walking barefoot. I ALWAYS wear socks inside and shoes outside. I hate wearing flip flops too. Sandals are OK. I also curl my toes a lot so maybe thats why.

It’s the same for me. I never take my socks off, and I prefer to have on shoes as well. I really don’t like my bare feet touching the ground, and as a result I will walk on my toes a lot if I do not have socks/shoes.
