I do here and there when it seems appropriately timed. If you do, feel free to share what you’ve said - maybe we can all have a little laugh.

1: When renovating an elementary school several weeks ago my foreman said something like “Who cares about that one last spot? No one will notice.” (As I was being a bit OCD about completing everything perfectly) and I replied: “The one autistic kid in the back of the class is going to notice it’s different.” He and another coworker had a laugh. (None of them know I’m on the spectrum, I’m sure they just assume I’m a bit of a different/difficult person like others in this industry.)

2: We’re currently just about finished building offices for Facebook. A low voltage installer commented that he’s never seen Anything quite like this in terms of soundproofing (No one has - they are going to extreme lengths to soundproof every office) so I did a quick look left & right to make sure no one would overhear me and potentially be offended, and then said “They’re probably planning on hiring a bunch of autistic savants and know they have hypersensitive hearing.” He smiled, had a little laugh, and said “You know.. ya, maybe!” Heh. Brightened his day just a bit, which made it a little less annoying for him to have to go through the extra effort to run his wiring. 8)

You ever drop comments like these?

I feel I'm most myself online when I'm posting on WP. Elsewhere (youtube, 4chan etc) I tend to be a lot edgier and yes, I will make autism "jokes" or rather, references to someone doing something autistic or being autistic. I'm also not really alt-right, or right leaning at all. But the language of "SJWs" and whatnot is so pervasive online that I tend to talk that way as well outside of WP. I guess it's kind of sad wanting to fit in with an amorphous, anonymous blob.

A couple days ago, I told a tenant friend that I had decided to use the phrase "My Forrest Gump Life" for my presentation at a clinicians' LGBTQ-autism training exchange in December. I am expected to serve as "Exhibit A," and, having enjoyed a professional life with hundreds of celebrities (some as friends), world leaders and at least one royal, it seemed fitting. My friend realized suddenly what I was describing, and said to me "...you ARE Forrest Gump!"

I haven't ever watched the Forrest Gump movie, but I understand its premise. Ridiculing myself for the sake of entertaining others is something I like to do. I guess I had better buy the Blu-ray disk.

I'm making a cabin with another Aspie. When I get to work he's often been planning stuff for the build that just seems weird and illogical to me, shelf brackets to support the eves and such like. Anyway, before work starts we sit around drinking coffee and I try to point out that we need to do things properly, the right way, the logical way, the way that will work. I feel a lot of my mental resources are used up talking about things off-site when what we need to do is get up there and solve problems in situ. If someone shows up I explain to them that we're having an autistic mega wrangle and we all laugh about it.

Oh yes. I can't think of any specific examples off the top of my head (I may get back to you about that), but I find having a bit of a sense of humour about my autistic traits is a rather good coping tool sometimes. Like the examples in the top post, it can be a good way to introduce autistic traits to people without making it sound like you're just begging for sympathy or trying to start some kind of dour "politically correct" debate about disability issues, which most people seem uncomfortable with. As the old saying goes; many a true word is spoken in jest.

Good point. I hadn’t thought of that, so it wasn’t my intent when I said those things.

Also, I’ve never heard that saying before. Makes sense, though.

Not until I suspected I might be autistic. I make a lot of not very PC jokes , don't share them with anyone but my GF.

I just deleted a joke as it may cause offense

I can't think of any specific examples of the top of my head either, but me and my immediate family make wisecracks about my autism. My cousin especially says things that others overhearing might find offensive, but I find hilarious.

I don't really make jokes about that but I do laugh at them.

No, because they wouldn't be understood most likely.

I had a thread deleted overnight as it was an autism related joke ( but was much deeper than just a joke )

My wife would love that.

If she notices I have a black eye or other bruises, or hears a loud bang from another room, she asks, "Oh, did another door/window/tree/street sign jump out and assault you?"

And they say we lack empathy.

I don't make jokes about Autism/Asperger's, but I do believe that I may relate to cats well because, as a book says, "All Cats Have Asperger Syndrome."
