Hi people,

I joined this forum because in the past few months I've learned about ASD and become pretty convinced I'm autistic. The discovery has helped explain a lot to me, including some of my major communication issues, but my parents are doubting my explanation. I am thinking about getting tested to hopefully convince my parents and maybe help us understand each other.

I have no idea where I would start looking for someone qualified/experienced in diagnosing young adult females with Asperger's. The prospect of trying to find a professional and get tested is overwhelming to me and I feel very alone in this whole thing. I've heard some people ask their GP for a referral, but my GP is pretty old-school and gruff and I'd be scared he wouldn't believe me either. Maybe I'm being ridiculous. Anyway, any experience, advice, or contacts in the Dallas area that you can suggest would be appreciated. Thanks!

I got diagnosed by a psychologist in Bedford. Forgot the practice's name but it's off 121, opposite side of the Daystar HQ and a (bad) Walmart. I just scheduled an appointment, no referrals or anything. Doctor was a sweetheart, think her name was Marie.

For Dallas, UT Southwestern has an autism center and does research. I'm pretty sure they do diagnosis too. I've been meaning to go there since I work in another hospital near by but procrastination's got me hard. Good luck fellow DFWer.

Thank you for your suggestions. Bedford is quite far from me but maybe I'll try calling UT Southwestern, if I can muster enough gumption.
