I'm curious just how many of us have those problems because for me they're almost crippling. I honestly think they're harder to deal with than the social or sensory issues because even in a perfectly controlled environment my executive functioning will always be a problem.

I struggle with executive functioning and communicating. I think it’s worse than trying to communicate and function with people when you’re out shopping say or with friends. Mostly because in those situations you can keep mostly silent or you could just leave, but when this happens you can’t just leave because you would likely lose your job. Every day in my office tower I’m in constant anxiety having to deal with office banter and my work colleagues often come over to me and ask if I have this file or where something is, which then sends my brain in to a shutdown and I spend the next five minutes struggling to form a sentence and searching every folder except for the right one. I hate executive functioning, it’s so hard and almost always makes me have an anxiety filled day. My colleagues are really understanding though and don’t rush me, they just stand, talk and smile patiently. In our office there's one man and I'm one of two other women. We all get on well, but trying to function executively during the day is really difficult.

When I got my autism assessment I took the Brief-A test for executive functioning. It said 90 percent of the population has better executive functioning than me.

Planning, Prioritizing, Initiating things, changing activities are big problems for me.

This is also my biggest problem. It affects my life way more than social problems because with social things i'm really good at mimicking.

I have problems coordinating a task and when there are too many layers of information to consider I'll sometimes make a bad split second decision. This happens a lot when I'm trying to follow directions or navigate a new area and I end up heading off in the wrong direction and getting lost pretty regularly.

Yes. Exactly. I completely agree.

I overcame sensory issues, overcame tons of social setbacks... I overcame them all, almost all possible outside factors that worsens executive function...
And my only problem is EF. My issue now is mostly with internal factors than external and 'ASD triggers'. I'm hunting this part of me down for 7 years.
Even have a sanctuary for myself -- none of that could solve my executive dysfunction.

Wow I'm surprised at just how many people have problems with it. I mean for me, it's huge. Out of everything else, exec function is by far the hardest, and it's also the only one that gives me a number that I use as an excuse for self-loathing, namely my grade. All the others could be fairly easily managed if it weren't for executive dysfunction holding me back.

I do lots of screw-ups when I have to use my "executive function."

Very much so.
Whether it is a chore or something I want to do my issues with time management alone become real problems quick, and I wear out quickly.

Yeah like if I have to get a whole bunch of big tasks done in a hurry, half the time it just can't be done.

I don't know whether it's an EF thing but I'm not too good at estimating how much time has passed.
