Lately I read an article about interiority - this seems to be some more sophisticated, mainstream way of autism, that is why I want to share it

I tried to summarize the article here:

Van Gogh only sold one painting during his life.

I think it's an elegant way of saying that a person is solipsistic.

There's a sizable difference between someone furnishing their inner world with art, music, and poetry of their own making and all-out believing whatever they want about the whole outside world and how it works.

This just sounds like big inner-world introversion to me. It's not new, it's also more a productivity model that gears toward novelty. Sometimes people in this area have world-shaking ideas but they spend a lot of time in solitude getting there.

This part of the article made me laugh; it's like something Foucault would write:

Quote:
Before modernity, affairs pertaining to the interior were not considered especially distinct from those of the world outside.

What does he think was happening in all those Shakespeare plays?

Or this part (bold mine):

Quote:
Proust who has observed, recast and reinterpreted the city in forms that are significant to him, following his deliberate but subjective attentions, through the scenes, artifacts and fictions of its inhabitants.

This is just the subjective experience, which we all have since we can only be ourselves. Everyone does this. It doesn't need a name like "interiority."

Sounds like a bunch of "Posteriority" to me! Sumpin he pulled out of his posterior.

Besides pleading folks to allow him to daydream he isn't really saying a whole lot.

Wow, such negative remarks. . .
:?

"Besides pleading folks to allow him to daydream he isn't really saying a whole lot."

Perhaps that's why I liked it after all, because it has a daydreaming aspect to it. So many posts on the internet nowadays what to believe and what not, especially in this time of year, around Christmas
"10 ways to believe in ..."
"7 steps to develop unshakeable belief in ..."
"6 things happy positive people believe..."

I belief in nothing particular
Actually daydreaming is my only hobby

As I understand it "Solipsism" is believing that only two things exists: you, and sensory impressions. The belief that there is no actual reality there outside of you.

Not the same thing as allowing yourself to have a "rich inner life" ( to spin it well), or "to sit on your ass and daydream all of the time" (to put a bad spin on it). What the author of the article was talking about.

OK, given these reactions I give up. This is perhaps a last post on this forum
Natural plastic, you're just a jurk. Someone has to say it. Block me from this forum for it, but you're comments are afwul.

The others also agreed with you that the text was bad, so you're right in that aspect, but they where at least civilised. Thanks for that

Still all of you missed the point, or I missed the point to properly express it, OK. Still, of course solipsism is nonsense. This text is not about solipsism
The only thing is that once we will all have to face some life events which in this article is mentioned as "those exaggerated stimuli that the world presents, disasters"

But I do not like to compensate these with some idealistic revelations, that people make up. Next few weeks thousands of people will be sitting in churches praying for God but does it help? That's why I wrote: "neither can we use those exaggerated claims that people present"

The thing that remains, is a little in between, where we can find some meaning in life, in between "those exaggerated stimuli that the world presents" and "those exaggerated claims that people present"

I have no idea how this has to do with soliptisism

But yeah, I give up. F.. you, you know who I mean. Bye folks

This sounds like metaphysics and epistemology to me, and those are ancient forms of philosophy practised for millennia.

Your post is appreciated. I think the comments were just aimed at the article, not you. Stick around.
