If you find an answer let me know. I try and focus on a single thing and that sometimes helps.

In response to the OP's question, "does anyone else experience this?" Yes. I would bet that there are a lot of us on this page that experience this problem.

Finding something to focus your thoughts on is one way to help with this. Video games, reading a book, mental exercises or meditation are good examples of ways to help focus.

Of course there is the medication route as well.

Yes. This is one of the things that defines me. As difficult as it can make life, I consider it more of a dangerous gift. I write, and the rather wild associative leaps give my work its most characteristic feature.

Of corse it can be a hindrance to more mundane tasks like shopping or putting on socks.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, magnesium supplements, five fruit and veg a day, more exercise, more sunlight, more fresh air, meditation. These are some of the things I'd suggest.

I have the same issue. I tell doctors yet they seem to offer no solutions and often don't ever mention it. Think the doctors I have been to suck for treating autism. They just throw anxiety and depression medication and it seems to resolve nothing. They don't spend time with me either, two minutes and I'm rushed out. It's probably best to have a psychiatrist and councilor working together though I have not been able to put that to the test yet. The councilor will actually listen to you, the psychiatrists I talked to don't.

Now that's the million dollar question, yes? I have learned to live with an over-active mind during the day which tends to make me a bit scatter-brained. It's at night when I need the medication to quiet it down so that I can sleep.

Try playing cricket/cicada chirps, I find it helps break up the thoughts

If it's causing problems in falling asleep, video games are one of the worst things you can do before bedtime.

I had that problem when my OCD & anxiety were bad. Taking Neurontin/Gabapentin for my OCD & Buspar/Buspirone for my anxiety helps a lot.

CBD oil, helps with the anxiety and to slow down your thoughts. There are always anti-psychotics like Seroquel to do that too, but CBD oil is far safer and less side effects. I would add mindfulness as well, find a mindfulness app on your smartphone and do meditations a few times a day. Music can help too to drown out your thoughts.

I also have problems shutting my mind up. I think I'll be trying the CBD oil.
