Not sure where this should be, so apologies if it's in the wrong place.

Strange habits, are they AS related, or just a person to person type thing, for example I:

Cannot cook my own food in front of people. If I have to make a meal for myself I have to wait until everyone is asleep or out of the room and I feel anxious if someone comes into the room while I'm eating or finishing up making said food.

Will not leave a bathroom stall until there's no one else in the bathroom. I get made fun of for taking so long in public bathrooms but there's always someone there and I just can't seem to leave with them there. :?

Used to hold my breath whenever the car would drive through a shadow.

Can't think of anything else at the moment, but are these AS or just strange quirks of mine? Wouldn't mind hearing about other similar things from other peeps if it is AS related. :D

*I ask because I find it hard to find decent anecdotal explanations of AS symptoms.

I try not to use public bathrooms at all, and if I do I will wait until everybody is gone, even if it takes 20 minutes. It may be AS related, or it may just be a random quirk.

After puberty I was reluctant to be seen naked or even not well dressed in public. It took decades to normalize this gradually. I used to go to shower when everybody was already in bed...

Usually I don't like when someone watches me while I'm doing something. Do you feel something similar? I don't mind it, though, I think I got used to it, I don't pick it up.

As for such quirks, I have some, I guess they're called phobia (compulsiveness?, superstition?). I feel unexplainable fear in swimming pools, connected to some well defined places, and I also felt increased anxiety or fear on the higher floors of the building we lived in when I was a kid, without reason. I feel it in elevators, too.

The strange thing is that most of my phobias are still in place, I only learned to cope with them.

Makayla: Really? Catsup is awesome, but on pizza? I shall have to try this....

Tamsin: Huh... Well if it's not just me, then it seems more likely to be an Aspy thing.....

OJani: Well, that actually seems pretty reasonable. I do in fact feel something similar, being watched is really creepy in general. I can stand being watched but it certainly isn't my favorite thing, you know? As for elevators and high floors, sounds like you had/have a fear of heights. Totally understandable. Fear never goes away, you just learn to cope with it. :( Swimming pools freak you out though? Hmm, swimming is actually really fun when you actually do it, maybe that's just cause it's the only place I'm not tripping and falling all over the place, but that's interesting.... Hmmm....

I have found that most, if not all, of my quirks are anxiety related. Sounds like yours are too. Specifically aspie related?? No. But the anxiety, the AS, etc are all part of the package for me (us), so yes.

I have a few weird ones...I also can't leave a bathroom stall if somone is in the washroom. I avoid public washrooms at all cost, and I think it's been about five or six years since I have used one. I also have difficulty using a bathroom at someone elses house.

I don't like people watching me cook or eat either. It's okay if they are eating too, but not if I am eating alone.

I don't know if this one is a habit, or what, but I have difficulty switching tasks without physically laying down in between them. Even if it is just for 1 or 2 minutes, it's like I have to shut off, and then I can switch to something new. Otherwise I get very overwhelmed and I'm unable to connect with what I am doing.

I don't like talking to people across a room, even to the teacher while in class. I have to go up to them after class has ended. I think this can fit under being scrutinized, which many people have a problem with. Because I just don't like being watched in general or being the center of attention.

I like even numbers and multiples of five and ten so you know where that goes.

I also worry constantly that some part of my appearance may be wrong, like my hair is messed up, or there is something on my trousers, or a smudge on my face.

I also look at people's noses or cheeks when I'm talking to them, so occasionally, they'll have the same problem and wipe that part of their face a lot. This one is actually kind of amusing for me. xD

I have many of these habits, which relate to my number one fear: being observed. So I hate to use public restrooms and hate to be seen eating. I also hate to be at the head of the line due to the impending transaction that all the people behind me will observe, and I hate to be the guy in position to operate the elevator buttons. I dislike being caught posting something on the bulletin board and, although it would be more efficient, I never back into my parking space because someone might see how badly I do it. Fear of being observed is a wonderfully flexible fear that can be used to ruin almost anything! I like to think I have it under control, but in truth I spend a lot of time scurrying around at odd hours and in the dark when there are few observers about.

I guess hiding in my bedroom could be considered a strange habit...

Otherwise, it's things like wearing earphones to go to the toilet - or having the radio on 24/7 in my bedroom - or not being able to eat properly in front of people (including family). I know who the main cause of all this is though, which is half the battle, I suppose.

the fear of being observed is something I had in my college years, but after a while you learn people just have no time to observe YOU and only You all the time.
I mean, what would they think about you ? That you look like a loser, and you should not be here ?
Can't be much more than that, so.. whatever. I think things like that too sometimes, but I try not to. I should focus on my own life. Don't do to the other what you don't want them to do to you huh.

Have had a problem with public bathrooms. Did improve a lot. Everyone pees with volume so I don't think people will find it something worth mentioning to their peers afterwards.

I can put on music all day. I need some kind of rhytmic predictable noise around, I guess.. to keep out the outside noises maybe ?
I can also put music on in the room and turn on my mp3 player at the same time. This chaos does not disturb me, however any other sounds that is beyond my control can bother me a lot, like barking dogs in the neighbourhood. Makes me go insane..

One of my strange habits is that I like to pee standing up sometimes even though I'm a biological female. I'm not lesbian or transgender, I just like doing it because I think its convenient and cool. So, here's how I do it. First, I find an empty toilet paper tube because you can attach it to your urethra since it will help you aim the urine directly into the toilet while standing. Without this or other STP devices, your urine will spray all over your legs and clothes since girls don't have a natural aiming device like boys. Then, I put the toilet seat up and stand close to the toilet bowl. I then pull down my pants and underwear all the way down to my ankles, attach the tube to my urethra and starting pissing. When I'm done, I clean myself with tp, throw it in and flush. I then pull my pants back up, put the seat down, wrap the piss soaked tube in tp, throw it in the trash, wash my hands and leave. I actually remember to leave the seat down unlike some of the boys LOL :D . I only do this at home and in the handicapped one person bathrooms btw. I don't do this in the ladies room because there's too many people around and because of those pesky cracks on stall doors allow people to see your feet. I wouldn't want some lady to see me standing up and question me about being a male even though I'm not. that'd be too awkward to deal with  . I've done this at home, university, church and some other places. That's my weird habit. Comment down below and share your opinion on this with me.

I hate public bathrooms, too. All of my worst nightmares (on a grossout level) are about public restrooms.

I eat very slowly, as a general rule. I hate rushing through meals.

I love to watch cat videos and tennis matches with my favorite players. Not so weird, but not many people I know are big tennis fans.

I have a hard time doing things when people are watching, like a lot of other people here.
