A world designed for people with ASD
Hypothetically speaking, if a world could be created or changed so that it is designed to help people with ASD live,
what changes to the world would you think would help?
And if the world cant be adapted, perhaps an island somewhere could be?
Just out of interest, as I recently read a book called "At Home with Autism", which was written by 2 US woman architects who specialise in designing homes, and social housing for people with autism.
Inside this book one of the authors details a housing development called Sweetwater spectrum in CA that looks awesome.
Specially designed for people with ASD ( I believe funded by the families of the inhabitants) and features uncluttered simple lines so as to not overwhelm the senses, as well as adequate sound proofing and sound dampening.
On top of that, this unique social housing scheme was built in a low key area, again away from too much noise and too much people and has some really cool communal facilities such as a swimming pool and hot tubs.
Anyway, any thoughts on the topic or the Sweetwater spectrum development.

I'm aware this will weasel out of most of the mental heavy lifting, but here's the most fundamentally accurate answer:
To design well for Autistics, start by throwing away the base assumption that the prevailing majority neurality is "normal" and instead recognize it more accurately as "the most-prevalent". The life experience of Autism then is less common but not less valid.
Doing this and thinking through the implications has fundamental insights to offer about how people treat each other and how to design for people on the spectrum.
One such practical insight is to be sure to ask & include us in the design process, which I understand this thread is about.
Hopefully some responders would offer directly-useful feedback.
Further, though, and here's the big pay-off -
Include Autistics in the design process! Employ autistic architects and advisors!
If the stuff about prevalence seems a bit dense, here's a video to check out for more, and I left a comment there as "Tim" which will show what I'm driving at.
