I just got the results from my reevaluation, and my official autism diagnosis is autism level 2 with mild speech impairment and without intellectual impairment.

Not level one because of difficulty with self care, very severe sensory issues, and being a bit of a flight risk mostly I think.

My original diagnosis was aspergers.

I'm curious who else was diagnosed aspie but isn't level one

I'll get back to you on that at the end of the month. I'm also being re-evaluated because I feel that level 2 is a better fit for me diagnostically than the level 1 I had been given initially. Like you, I have difficulty with self-care, sensory issues, wandering, self-aggression, etc. What kind of speech impairment do you have? I don't know if I have one or not. I can speak "normally" but I talk slowly and with long pauses that break up my sentences and make them choppy. I'm also still using my boogie board and iPad to communicate when my words give out on me or I'm getting frustrated with how long it's taking me to say something.

It says "Pragmatic speech issues" specifically but I think my issues are related to my dyspraxia because when stressed I physically have issues moving my mouth so I can't form words. Lately though I'm having issues with it in a lot more situations and often have to plan out what I say before I do, and work slowly. Before losing speech I can have a lot of stuttering. I also have an odd, very deep tone of voice that as a young girl sounded like a grown man.

The speech issues interest me. As I have said many times, I have not formally evaluated for autism and my insurance doesn't cover it completely. However I have had several therapists and even a couple psychatrist state they think I'm on the spectrum or that I may get be.

Anyway once I was having a meltdown and got sent inpatient and one doc commented when I'm doing bad, I have marked speech issues and I become hard to understand. She actually diagnosed it as a "cognative disorder". Anyway that lady said I could have autism causing that but she doesn't diagnose that inpatient.

That's very interesting. I lose my speech when I get stressed too. It's like I can feel the words stuck at the back of my throat, but I can't get them out. I often hold my breath without noticing, trying to force all my air behind the stuck word, but it doesn't help. My mouth also seems to have trouble moving in preparation to get the stuck words out too, like it's suddenly lost all muscle tone and knows what shape to make, but it doesn't have the energy or control to actually form the words properly. I stutter when I get very frustrated, anxious or excited too, like my mouth is moving so fast that it's tripping over my words. I think I'll ask my evaluator about it when I see her.

It is a stereotype that Aspergers equals Level 1 ASD and also equals above average to genius intelligence.

The elimination of the diagnoses further allowed the Aspie elitists/supremacists and socially awkward savant loving media to much further perpetuate stereotypes that were already there. There is not much one can really do about it because when a term becomes colloquial people get to define it as they please.
