As far as I remember the forum rules, you aren't required to be on the spectrum to contribute.

Are you talking about the official diagnosis that you are waiting for?

You are certain that they will announce that you are ...NOT on the spectrum?

Why are you so sure?

I'm in complete agreement with the other posters. If you are found not to be on the spectrum (I would be surprised) whatever you are has plenty of crossover with the spectrum so I don't see why you would need to leave.

Many people who post here are either not on the Spectrum, or are not sure if they are on the Spectrum of not.

Friends of people with autism. Family of people with autism.

You dont have to be autistic to be a member of WrongPlanet.

By the way they don't announce anything. They just explain their conclusions with you and ask you if you agree.

Then they send you a copy neatly written up and send another copy (if you agree) to your doctors who will

probably never bother to read it (I wish someone had warned me of this). There will be recommendations at the

end of it that you will get no help with because no one will read them.

First things first.

First...lets have him explain to us WTF he is talking about.

Second - when "they" (the shrinks, or whomever) finally make their "announcement", and if they do make their Papal Bull and if they do declare him to be "not autistic", then- yes- that would be the next question- how would that even make a difference to whether or not you stay on WP?

I agree that he would not need to, and should not, leave WP just because of that.

Yes that's what I'm talking about, the official diagnosis. I 'm in full, negative , second guessing mode. If I am I'd venture to say it would be 'atypical autism',if that's on the spectrum.

The Dx of only official for other bodies of officialdom. It's worthless as a personal guide. Please don't trust overmuch in a bunch of doctors who haven't figured it out yet. Really. It's a doctor-to-doctor document. If useful, go ahead. But mine had to agree with what I already knew (and it did). I am surprised that you're waiting for a verdict. It might change access to gov't plans etc. but it's not going to be the Truth.

It's not an exclusive club where you have to show your "official diagnosis" membership card to participate in the forum. You're still welcome. It would appear that you have enough in common with people on the spectrum that you find the site helpful and have a sense of belonging, regardless of your clinical diagnosis. Aspie or not, a lot of people are here for different reasons.

If someone makes you feel uncomfortable here because you test one way or another... then shame on them. But don't exile yourself because you feel like you don't have permission to be a part of the forum.

I'm not officially diagnosed, there's no advantage in it for me. If it turned out I wasn't on the spectrum then I'd be an NT with every single aspie box ticked... which would be interesting.

I always enjoy reading your posts, firemonkey.

At 62 I'm dubious about any advantages in a practical sense. Especially as I've basically been told at the first assessment there's not much adult support out there. In a non practical way it's about fitting pieces in the long running puzzle of my life.

You're part of the WP family. That's all that matters.

Your reasons for wanting an official diagnosis are completely valid. For me (at a similar age to you) it suddenly all makes sense after a lot of years... but I don't really need the official stamp. Obviously we're different in that regard.

Yeah. I have noticed that you tend to do that: go into negative mode. Your tendency do that itself shows that you should stay on a support site like WP.
