It seems at least a few people here have expressed that they feel immature for their age. Is that just in general? Only in certain facets of life? If you feel immature, what is it about you that leads you to believe you're immature?

Personally, I wouldn't categorise myself as immature. The only facet of my life where I'd consider classifying myself as relatively immature is underdeveloped social skills, which are pretty much part and parcel of being on the spectrum.

Otherwise, I feel like an old soul. In fact, I'd dare say I am more inclined to feel older than my age, and in some ways, mature beyond my years.

What about you?

I feel the same exact way. I think people's perception of "immature" these days pretty much translates into "socially unacceptable." I get along really well with people who are twice my age, but among my similarly aged peers, I do not have any friends, and people think I'm clingy and creepy.

For me it really depends.
In some ways I've always been seen as more mature, and in others I feel pretty behind.
some examples;

I feel behind on;
Realizing when I am bugging people
Controlling my emotions
Ability to make and keep friends

And ahead on;
Ability to think through a situation
Ability to thoughtfully argue

Yes because I struggle with boundaries. I can be taken advantage of easily.

And in a positive because I actually care about my hobbies. Most NTs are quite nonchalant.

People tell me I am immature for my age, but I don't feel that way.
I think my bubbly demeanor allows me to get through a lot of things that other people can't sometimes. It's nice to be able to laugh away social baggage sometimes, or to just fall deeply into some obsessive topic. I get my job done more efficiently thanks to this.

Yeah, I feel like an old soul. People called me an old soul when I was a teen and in my 20s.

I was quite immature emotionally though.

Broke like a little girl. Melt downs and throwing things. I almost hit my eye with a wild shard of broken mug when I threw it at a tiled wall... and that gave me the kick I needed to learn to calm down when I'm upset.

Most of the time, no. In some ways, I actually feel more mature than a lot of kids my age. I might be behind socially, but psychologically I might be ahead.

When I encounter people who are in my age range and they have what I don't, I feel immature, even if I am a few years older than the other person. Living in a culture where people get married early and you are far behind in the social skills curve f*****g sucks.

On the other hand, being around kids and teens makes me feel old.

In some ways yes, in some ways no. People my age tend to vary massively in maturity so that also factors in.

I've always been called mature for my age. I think people Who go though some hardships in life mature earlier.

Somehow the question doesn't makes sense to me and for this I don't vote. I'm neither feeling mature nor immature because I can't compare myself to other people. Don't know why but I'm emotional and intellectual just to different. :mrgreen:

In some areas, yes. But I think my impulsive behaviours often make me look immature (I have ADHD). I also get curious or mischief-ful (is that a word?), which can make me seem childlike. But being a normal adult all the time is boring, innit?

However, there are things that make me too mature for my age, like I often view the world like an elderly person. I often scoff at the behaviours of young people, and I believe couples should be married before having babies, and I think children and teenagers should respect adults, and even people my age and older should respect and cherish elderly people. I like to do things the old-fashioned way like going into stores to do my shopping, not online (no matter how much I hate crowds).
And I hate clubs and drinking. I scorn at young people who go out clubbing and aim to get as drunk as humanly possible. It's pathetic in my opinion.

But I am living an expected lifestyle of a person my age; I live with my boyfriend, planning on getting married, and I work, pay bills, etc. Although these days it's not really immature to live with your parents over 25, because so many people do, so it's more accepted these days in the UK.

I *am* immature for my age! If I wasn't I wouldn't have just bought an Uglydoll Happy Meal toy for myself, and then took it out to play with while I was at the restaurant. :P

I sometimes play with things, but it's more so fiddling than playing. I'm no longer able to use imagination when playing like I did as a child, but I do like to fiddle, to keep my fingers occupied. And when things are brightly-coloured, I get rather memorized, as I love bright colours.
I have a set of toy safari animals I used to play with as a child, that I can't part with. I have them posing as ornaments on a shelf in the spare bedroom, and sometimes I have an urge to play with them. But I don't have the same imagination I did when I was a child, but I'd still like to set the animals up and create scenes. Is that considered playing?

I'm better with people that are older or younger. I'm worst with people my own age. It's very strange.
