Needing to do "only one thing at a time" is the definition of not being able to multitask.

Multitasking means being able to shift your attention frequently and rapidly between one task and another, continuing to perform each task on autopilot while paying attention to the other. No one is really good at this, but some people are much worse at it than others. I am definitely worse at it than most people, and it sounds like you are too, judging by what you've said in the above post.
